Default Cosworth troubles !!

hello all need your help !! urgent

i have a mk2 escort fitted with a cozzy engine turbo . just had it to msd and got the engine running sweet BUT !! only on tickover as soon as i touch the revs the engine stutters and starts to die? the engine has been pressure tested and is now all good , the fuel rail has been set to the correct pressure , all injectors , leads etc etc all tested and are good

i have also got a corsa power steering set up in it and when i unplug the ecu to the steering the alt lights come on in the dash ??!! and makes the engine stutter

msd say it is losing volts from somwhere , any thoughts or idears before i have a head burst

all idears are welcome as i have the lakes tour in under 5 weeks and need to get it sorted

cheers fellas

Check the TPS is set between 2-5%
if it runs well till you touch the thottle and goes back to foot off this should be the problem like i had !

i would be surprised if the car has gone to msd and they havent set the tps up properly.

if its losing volts, is your alternator wired up properly?
the power steering shouldnt affect it
the alt will only charge if the light is off.

have you got 13v at the bsttery now? as it had less than 11v when we had it which is why we could go no further, either the alternator was goosed or for some reason not charging

i was limited to what i could calibrate at the time as the ecu was shutting down. if the charge issue is sorted, give me a ring on tuesday and i will get it back in finish the static set up

start at the simple bits and work your way up.

battery voltage?
alternator output?

no point looking for drops at sensors etc if you don't even have correct voltage at the battery. more details needed!

hello james , what you did was spot on mate and i am not having a go or anything like that . i am just trying to get some idears as i have never worked with cosworth engines before [more pinto & x/flows !? ], i have a auto electriction coming round on tuesday to go back to basics and i thought if i had some info for him it might just help out i am sure it will just be somthing or nothing as all the dash needs looking at to be 100% and i am sure once we have it sorted you will be able to work your magic , i will defo give you a ring as soon as i have got the volt correct and i am sure it will be spot on when we have finished

cheers mate and thanks for the replys

i would guess mate as your dash biniccle was missing the charge circuit is broken by the light missing, so when its back together it may work ok, measure battery voltage with a meter and make sure it reads over 13v,

as it is, the battery is under 11v, so this needs sorting before you go any further

it will be an ace car when its sorted mate
