Apprentiship wages are SHITE! Depending on how old he is, Ł3.57 is the minimum wage for 16-18 year olds and 18-20 somthing is about Ł4.50. Somthing like that. My girlfriend worked as a riding instructor (apprentiship) for a couple of months and even when she was qualified she was still on the same minimum wage because of her age. But it is up to the employers discretion but most of the time its mimimum wage to keep costs down.

Motor garages are either independent retailers, part of a group of garages like Arnold Clark, Evans Halshaw, Vardy, etc, or a very few are owned directly my a motor manufacturer.

Each and every one is free to set their own payscales so there is no point finding out the going rate in London if your brother is in Aberdeen.

He needs to get into the garages and find out what is available locally on both the training and the pay because everything else is just academic.
