Do you really want to be the best part of 30k in debt for a lump of metal and plastic?

The only acceptable way to do it is if you can pay it off faster than it depreciates IMO.

Not evenone has the option for cash. Im pretty sure the Ford finance is ok or there wouldn't be half as many Focus RS's sold. Go onto the Ford website and there should be a finance calculator on there, or pop and visit your local dealer.

£30k on finance is fine as long as you can afford it!

I'd hold on and see what happens. We'd all love another "proper" RS but I don't reckon this is it. The MK1 RS's are creeping down and i think these will too. I also have a feeling the green ones will go out of favour through over-popularity. White testarossas were ultra cool in the mid 80's but now Ferrari dealers make more money off them by painting them Red!!!!!

I'm a huge Ford fan myself having owned Capris, mk2 escorts, xr2s, 3s and a Cosworth...but i really hate to say that the essence of the old RS's can't live on in a FWD? I'm currently driving an ST170 as a daily and i dunno if fancy bits and volvo power would necessarily make it better/worth 30k.

Ford need to re release the MK1 escort!!!! haha, like those modern muscle cars/GT40s etc in the states!!

surely the simple fact the mk2 rs isn't limited in numbers means it will depreciate faster than the mk1 which was a limited run?

I'd save up as much as i could for a year and then buy a second hand one as it will be cheaper and your not going to lose as much as if you bought new .
Think about the color tho , get a white one lol
If you can afford it for maybe 10yrs then go for it .

Depends how much you can afford mate, They will offer you finance if you qualify but you usual have to put deposit down etc. I would usually prefer to get loan more than car finance.

I'm in the situation at the moment. I sold my nice car to fund house renovation, year and half down the line my finances are much better, i have an old car i just dont want anymore. i dont have enough capitial to buy a car out right but do easily have enough spare monthly income and a deposit. So for me its get Finance or wait 3 years to save. Saving is not practical for me as i got old car that i dont want for another 3 years.

FOr comparision i went to dealer and they offered my finance which = 300 a month however i can get a loan for 250 a month which = same amount. So be carefull, plus if getting second had from dealers they have 1.5-2k premium. However being RS i supposed it would be new.

Out of interest how much does monthly payments come out at mate? Compare what i had on few quotes from dealers when toyinh with new car. i ruled out RS as thought high 20's by time speced it up a bit would be out of my desired budget.

I'm now thinking of getting a Golf GTI Edition 30..

Edition 30's are nice, but make sure you get a 3 door!!

If you can afford the finance you can afford to save. Your basically throwing money away because your impatent. But each to there own!! Deffo bank loan over finance, however GAP makes finance slighly more tempting than it otherwise would be as you know you will never be out of pocket if your asset is worth less than your outstanding total.

I bet if you got a FRS on finance it would work out at like 40k or something

You factored in running costs/servicing etc?

I'd hate to be strapped up with that kind of debt, just for a car.

Tim i know what your saying but its also depends on situation. Me for example: I have a 1.5k car that just cost me £300 for MOT While the car is good whats the point in driving the thing for another 3+ years saving being totally unhappy cost of running that etc. When on the loan ok will cost be extra 2k but imo that is fine for me as i get a car i want now, loan amount i wont miss as virtually paying the same amount in interest free credit i had for kitchen and sofa which is coming to end etc. Seems bit of no brainer to me.

As said all depends on everyones personal situation, but its fine for people to preach to others who may not be in the situation. I have always paid cash for my cars before, but now buying house nearly two years ago, renovating it. Unfortunaly i dont have 15-20k cash lie around as do most people nowadays.

Its all about affordabiltiy... Personally i see what i can afford and go under just to be on safe side. Only thing that ever puts me of new car is deprectation. One thing to take into account! Least 2-3yr old car you would hope a large hit will be taken at least. Hence why i find woud find it VERY hard to buy a new car.

Oh if i do get one would only be 3dr. I dont want to be family man etc

Finance on a car is so wrong imo,you buy the car for say 30k and then you have the interest,so the car cost you maybe 34k inculding the interest? sell it five years later you have lost a lot of money
It like when people brag about expensive fast cars they have bought and making out they are loaded,99% of the time if you ask them the car is on tick
Just my opinion go for it if its what you want to do

As long as in your eyes the cost of the lending (interest etc...) is less than the value you place on having the car now rather than later, and you can afford it then I see no problem!

It depends how unhappy you are in your "normal" car. I drove round in an M-reg 106 XND for 2 years until I got my Golf. TBH once I was used to it I didn't mind it! I could park it in small spaces, it cost nothing to run and I didn't care if anybody rammed me

Then I had an engine problem with the golf after about 3 weeks and I was without it for another 3 weeks. So I was back in the Pug, and it took about a week of getting used to again. But by the time I was due to get the Golf back I didn't want to let it go.... mad!

PMSL Tim, know what your saying i went from a loaded 330d sport with less than 60k miles to an X plate 306 Was hell of a drop and i hated it! however afterawhile i fell in love with the little thing, but after 1 and half years its starting to get me down now, i just cant be arsed with old car woes. Rattly bag parcel shelf, not comfy really to drive, and just generally no toys. SO kidna fallen out love with it. Saved a nice little deposit for new car, so just getting loan as top up.

Your right the dark grey ED30 are stunning! but im not to fussy on colour, it just has to be 3door and DSG. Just waiting for one thats sensible priced.. lol

Though there is a nice Standard Golf GTI for sale localish. but i think its bit expensive, 06 palte, 1 owner, 27k, its black with cream leather, DSG, highline etc he wanted 13.7k but got him down to 13k still got back of mind its tad expensive for 06 one? Though fair bit cheaper than ED30's.

Does seem a bit steep for an 06! But if it is in good condition and well looked after, in the long term it will be worth it.

The DSG is good, I don't have it on my car. But a friend has it on his scircco and its a nice drive. He also has a Mk6 GTi and he chose not to have the DSG though.

What do the Ed30's fetch now? Deffo going to turn mine into a rep on the outside. Just need front splitter (which IMO even though it is only tiny makes a world of difference to the look!) and the rear valence, oh and the wheels! Been considering the replicas but I'm in two minds.

Keep us posted with your hunt, I'm sure you won't be dissapointed when you finally find one! I shall keep my eyes peeled for you too

If you can afford it, don't mind the depreciation, and you really want one, then go for it. If I was in the position to buy one I utterly would, even if I took a big financial hit on it when i sold it on.

Plenty of people buy cars as investments, as they can be appreciating assets.

Not brand new Focus' mind!

I think the investment aspect is a bonus. Mk1's hit lows at the start of the 1990's. Nobody expected them to be like they are now at that point.

You may well be right. However, S1s 3doors etc etc werent limited numbers and the right condition motors of these models hold the money/will always have a buyer.

Also factor in Ford have been struggling to build them quick enough and its doubtful the project build run will be met. They project 8000 units world wide remember. For example IIRC they built around 7000 RS1600i's back in the day...

Firstly dont use ford finance. IF your situation changes and you cant afford the repayments anymore, they simply take the car off you and you still owe them.

Use a bank loan, pay upfront your savings so your monthly payments are less. You also save the deposit money this way. If your situation changes you can sell the car privately.

I would be more umming and arr'ing about the depreciation. Its 29k for an RS with part leather and luxury pack one in frozen white.

How much will this be in a years time ? £15k ?

Plus the fact that theives are going mad for these cars and theres been some armed robberies for them.

having just stumbled upon this thread, the answer is yes you can put the new rs on finance

i was talking to the guy at the local dealership (alperton) and he's sold 2 so far that i'm aware of, one was on finance

ok, so it's the thick end of £30k give or take a few pennies, but the killer is that you won't be able to buy into the servicing deals they do for £15.99 a month

ginge works at tat dealer so he may be able to shed some ligt on the ammounts to be paid out

hey i just sweep the floor and make the tea,,,, i dont do anything with car sales,,,, infact my place no fucking department helps anyone out and the sales boys have even screwed over staff on deals,,,,, so PLEASE dont ask advice off me as my place is only about the money..... ford seems to have changed from when i first worked there

theres alot of other cars about for that sort of cash that aint got a blue oval on it,,, and the running costs of the new focus RS are gonna be M3 type prices or its gonna be like the racing puma where fuck all parts are available due to low demand making them obsolete

the new fiesta zetec S is tempting though i must admit
