Basically it had developed a fun new game where when i went over a bump it would turn off and on again until i went over a particually large bump and it went off and never returned. there have been a couple of times that she has come back to life for anything between 1 second to 5 mins. every now and then you hear it scanning for a cd but nothing on the unit itself. do i need a new head unit or is could it be a wiring problem.
any help or advice on things i could try would be awesome!!
Thanky muchly

wiggled all the cables around but from my previous experience of not a lot there are lots of cables and joiners and stuff going all over the place! think it may require someone with a bit of car audio knowlage to have a look at as i cant figure it out at all!

Sounds more like a cra wiring fault, my guess is somebody has bullet and butt connected things behind the stereo and one isn't making proper contact. Mine had been butchered so I soldered in a full ISO harness

yeah thats exactly what its like! there are 3 large connection blocks and wires that go in and dont come out etc. think i may have to just have the dash out and get someone to look at it i think! may try using a multimeter and see if that brings anything to light at all (have to learn to use one first haha)

Could also br a broken dry solder joint inside the unit.
The normal test is to drop it from 2 feet onto a carpeted surface, if it goes off it fails, this is fairly std test repairers use, certainly the one I use, who repairs all makes including SONY, my Kenwood KR 855RL(american version made to work over here) is still going strong and is 17 years old, had source tone, and neg and pos amber and green.

As theres a thread bout headunits il ask about mine!!!
Have a Kenwood mask 7021se, firtsly there was a horrible crackling coming thro the speakers, if you increased the volume then it seemed to clear it!! Secondly the motor on the mask has packed up, werent a problem at first as you could coax it to turn/edject a cd, but now theres no motor noise at all!!
Im guessing its fucked but thought id ask if its repairable!!
Cheers
