Default clutch problem

can anyone help???
iv'e fitted a new engine to my fiesta van, i never touched the clutch on the engine (as it was new) only put the gearbox back on (with struggle)
but now ive noticed that the pedal if further down then before(about half way), and the cable seems shorter on the box? is it just a matter of adjusting or will i have to take off box to see what's happened??
thanks
josh
