R32 will be far cheaper to maintain but I think you'd be disappointed.

Had a mates R32 for a while when he was working abroad and it's lovely to drive but isn't really that quick in all honesty. Think the noise makes you think it's faster than it actually is.

Also, the Mk5 R32 looks wank compared to the Mk4 IMO, the styling is better on the GTi at that age I reckon.

M3 for me but seriously look into the running costs - a couple of pals have not done this and had to get rid of them due to some nasty bills.

I would norm chop, but problem i finding is trying to get a half decent one is proving to be VERY hard. And they are a lot older than the Golf etc. Plus i suppose being as Golf is newer it would be more reliable running costs less....

I quite like the look of R32, not into all the shouty looks etc. Yeah thats one thing always got in back of mind on the M3 is potential big bills. Just the R32 seems like its got a lot of toys, ok its not mega fast but tbh i dont really care as long as its fun, reliable and got a few luxury toys.

i'm semi tempted to m3 world at the minute but if i pull my finger out and upgrade my bike then i can put that stupid thought to bed!

I was worried that M3 world would be a mine field. They dropped in price quite a lot to make them affordable to all sorts of people. Perhaps say ones who cant afford the upkeep as such!

Have you been out looking or just net? What problems are you finding?

Main faults etc etc?

Just trouble finding one that has good history, spec etc. Also finding ones that owner have had short time so thinking of the above, ie they have big bill coming and people cannot afford to fix it properly.

Another thing that buts me off m3 is worry of bills when i cant be arsed with the hassel of cars any more, i just want to bufty them and enjoy lol.

Much as im still VERY much looking for an M3 i may have to broaden my search i think. For money i got to spend nothing much floats my boat, i want something sport, fun with a bit of luxury and i think R32s are only one other than BMW that ticks that.

Dunno, anyone else got any suggestions? lol

What about a newer shape 335 if you can find one in budget. One of the guys I mentioned that got rid of his M3 has replaced it with a 335d and says he's happier with it overall.

Plenty poke and all the creature comforts.

Friend of mine has just bought an 08 Renualt megane F1 R26 paid 13-14k 3.5k miles. Doesn't have as many toys as the M3 or Golf but just as comfy and is pretty much a brand new car thats easy on running costs.

I had mk4 r32 for a good few years, great cruising car, loved motorways 150 indicated) all day long as for fun?! not a drop, quite a heavy car which you can feel, I took mine round ring and didnt like it at all, just couldnt find any confidence in it, all felt a bit vague. Thing is though, as an everyday car it was great, super reliable once warranty issues were sorted and really sturdy piece of machinery. I think Id be tempted towards m3 if fun is what your after

SO basically its a nicer cruiser with some toys on it..

So not going to rule one out i think, especially if can find DSG model with right history/mileage etc.

As said above i LOVE the way they sound, but thats not a reason i can base on buying a car

Never really "got" these tbh.....

Think Redline summed it up pretty well last month when they said it doesn't seem to be able to work out what kind of car it wants to be! It ain't a sports saloon/coupe like an M3, it ain't a "proper" hot hatch and it definitely ain't a rally-bred road car. It's got a bit of an identity crisis methinks!

Decent car, but whatever it is you want from it, there will be something out there that does it a lot better!
