i was 2.2 bar t4 472 bhp.
i have to say the roller turbos seem much more alive, on my gtr its the equivelant of a gt28 on a 1340cc and punch the throttle at 4500 rpm and its virtualy instantanious. my old cos with a t4 2050cc was nowhere near as alive in its boost area but if a gt can handle high egts i dont know. i dont see much above 900c manifold on the gtr.
the t series are thought to be more robust arent they ?

greys with a t4 is pointless
if you only want 400 ish bhp, you have chosen the wrong turbo imo,
there is no point in having a t4 and living with the bad points for any less 500bhp
if your going to use a t4 you need to build a t4 spec engine to make the most of it, otherwise you will be dissapointed with the whole car, and cry when a t34 car pisses past you lol

My car with a T4 and greys was not crap imo James.
i did a lot of track days with that spec and the car done very well with just the t4 and greys, cannot recall any t34 cars pissing all over it lol.
Even on the road, let it spin up and it would go and not run out of puff, change up and away it goes.
Fair enough, there are rb turbos out there now and would spin up faster and people now have a better choice to pick from.
i have got a T38 on my car now and tbh i would rather go for the T4, the cars is similar to the way it performs but top end is where it struggles, not like the T4.
the T38 is supposed to be in the middle of the t34 and t4, but i feel as though its a pointless turbo.
there are a few users on here that use a t4 and running between 400-450 and are happy with what they have got,i bet most of them had gone from a t34 to the t4.

Dave, agree with that ^^^^^^^ 100% mate, i,ve said it until i,m sick of saying it, hated the T38 on my saff, terrible to drive, lifeless below 4k.. pointless imo..
Yes 2 types, one looks like a T34 and the other abit like a T4, i had the Universal Turbo T38 which resemble a T34 where-as the Turbo Technic looks like a T4...Phewwwww
I personally now wouldn,t choose a T38, the GT3071 is making nice power on cars, Evos aswell and the spool is similar to a T34 so i believe from Karl/Sheady etc...

I have to disagree there my car runs a t4 and greys has no lag because the engine has been specced and mapped to run about 430 bhp car pulls really hard and turbo is not even trying engine has been built to run more power but is not needed as the car drives brilliantly as it is

there is no point having a T4 and capping the boost just when the thing is starting to work imo, totally pointless.
ive mapped quite a few t4 cars on greys, and it breaks my heart to stop the old girl making boost just when things are about to get exciting as you have run out of fuel

James, i hear your view on the T4 and i do agree, BUT surely running a T34 to make 400+bhp isn,t good practice?? WHAT i mean by that mate is surely you,ll be going though T34s MONTHLY......
And do T34s make a genuine 400+bhp?? surely they,re on their limits then???

i know which i would rather use most often
t34 will run 32psi with no dramas, i ran mine at 36psi for 75k mles without an issue
i bet a t34.63 could get you to 400 with the right motor, a stock engine will make over 380 on our off the shelf package
dont get me wrong, im the biggest T4 fan there is, but it has to be done on the right engine and for the right reasons, otherwise you have chosen the wrong turbo imo
as a general road car, stepping from a T34 to a T4 was the worst choice i ever made.
however on the open road things were different lol T4s at 37psi are fookin awesome!

but if you ran a t34.63, or a t38 flat out on a real giood spec engine you could make similar or even more power, and the car WOULD be more responsive and a better driving car, that is a fact

My car is very responisive with great drivability and power all the way through not as with alot of cars where people say a t4 is laggy and then you get to say 4000-4500rpm and all the power comes in at once, power is there straight away

Interesting read that James, that,s AMAZING mate running it for 75k miles at that power, so it does show they can handle it..
I must admit too, i loved my first T34 3door, as a road car it was pretty untouchable, i was rarely passed only by BIG power Evos & cossies and only then that was @ WARP speed licence loser....

I had my T4 on a modified engine with ports, cams etc but used a 4x4 exhaust manifold...
It made 435 bhp on the rollers and was actually quite nice to drive although I did have a high CR and only ran 1.4 bar boost
This BHP figure is the limit of the 4x4 exhaust manifold !

T34 is easily the best turbo for road use, by a country mile IMHO... The real advantage of a T4 car is in 4th and 5th gear, where you gain a huge advantage being able to hold the power to the redline.
The biggest thing about the T4 is you HAVE to be in the correct rev-range, and in a 2wd car it will quite happily light the back end up well over 100 mph. If you want a T4 on a 2.0 yb, be prepared to thrash it. A t34 is a lot easier to live with, I can't comment on the GT turbos as I have no real experience of them.
