Default head lamp question

i have a vw passat the drivers head light on dip beam not working so thought new builb i changed that still not working tried builb in other side both builbs work so i checked fuse thats ok so i got a friend who s a auto sparky to test it theres power theregoing to plug and other side of plug so my mate rekons its the circuit in the head lamp but i didnt think head lights had circuits cos builb just goes on to the plug and that makes it work am i right or wrong before i buy another head light the builb works on full beam tho

Is there power at the engine bay loom plug that plugs into the back of the headlight, and no power at the plug inside the headlight that plugs into the bulb?

If so, could be a wire come loose/corrosion inside the headlamp....

theres power on loom and plug so why wont the builb work my mates saying its the headlight but you dont need the builb in the light for it to work do you
