a lad i know got a proper good find the other day
there a bunch of lads that are ball into bmw,s and have a unit near us where they store and work on there own cars and they pop round to see us all the time
was talking to one of them the other day and he is a lucky fucker to nsay the leist
he was talking cars to some one and they told him they knew of an old bmw at a quarry so he went to have a look justout of interest thinking it would be hanging due to being sat in a quarry for years
it was infact sat in the carpark and had been there for years .no one knew who owned it and it had been sat for about 20 years
the owner of the quary basicly sold him it for £20 to put into tea money for the lads that work there
best bit is its totaly standard with no rot and its a 2002 alpina

Can't believe that one. You telling me that between the owner of the quarry and all the lads that work there, over a 20 year period, none of them worked out what it's worth?
You sure he's not pulling your leg. Even my gran in her 80's would know it's worth more than £20.

It's a hard one to believe like said really , if i'd been working there for just a week i'd of been interested in finding out about it and it's weird nobody else did .
I reckon he could be pulling your leg a bit
20 years sat in a car park at a quarry , i've worked in and near places like that and the dust and muck thats in the air , and there's no flakey paint on it .
I'll reserve judgment on this one

yes this is the one dude, ask your mate if he wants the twin 40 webber manifolds that my mate took off it bout 6 months ago, n yes, the carbs were still on it, they're now on his mk1 escort, lol, n i dont know bout it bein an alpina, my engine builder who took the parts never said it was an alpina, he said it had a 2.0ltr in it, which i had dibs on, but he never got round to collectin it, nevermind, ggrrrr, hahaha
#31
not when my engine builder was wantin it, the story i got told was that the previous owner of the quarry had driven it in n left it there bout 4 year ago, no keys or logbook, n my builder didnt want to smash the steering lock to move it, but i cant be sure. though i would imagine that when he applies for a new logbook, the dvla always contact the previous owner and ask if its no longer their vehicle, he could say yes i want it back, that would b interesting, so to speak.
#34
hahaha, suppose you could look at it like that, i dont know where the law stands, if its been left on private property for a long time i guess they have a right to get rid of it, but he may not be able to claim it as his and put it on the road, but then again, he could just break it for spares.
#35
no because there is a law covering this kind of thing, cant remember exactly what it is but if a car is left abandoned for a certain amount of time and unclaimed it can be acquired providing you apply to the dvla for a log book, the dvla then send a letter to the owner giving them 14 days to object if they ignore the letter after 14 days a log book will be sent to the person the applied for it making them the keeper, obviously it is adviseable to try and find the original owner first and check but if the owner of the car park where thew car was found does not know who it is, its on his property untaxed etc then he could pretty much do what he like withg it..
a mate of mine had a similar thing a few years back, he was buying a genuine ex btcc renault 19 16v that was originally driven by alain menu his plan was to make it road legal keeping the original btcc looks but with a basic williams engine and box etc but as the car was lhd he could not get hold of things like the pedal box etc very easily, he then heard of a dumped lhd renault 19 through the forums that was orriginally on polish plates , he contacted the police, they said if the car goes 6 months unclaimed he can take it. I am not sure what the outcome was and wether he ever actually went through with it all though

i used to work in a breakers yard, every car in our yard was untaxed and on private land, the dvla still have it on record as some of the cars we repaired and sold on we always just applied for the log book, never had a problem
#38
I didn't explain myself very well.
You cannot keep an untaxed car in a public place so you risk it been reclaimed.
I can keep as many untaxed cars as I want on my land, and nobody has a right to them because of there tax status.
