Default cossie frozen or just coincidence?

i just went out to my car to start it up/check its all ok
NO WATER IN HEADER TANK

i filled it up (took about 4 litres) so basically just the pipes from the tank to the pump. the rads and engine are still full of water/antifreeze mix, i took a hose off the engine (1 at the back of the head) and it was full of red water/antifreeze mix so hopefully that suggests it didnt freeze.
i traced the leak to the water pump(2wd cossie)
now theres a couple of holes in the bottom right hand corner, and i seem to remember having a leak from there on my old engine.
has it frozen and fucked it or is it just coincidence thats its damn cold and this has broken?

the car had about 3-4litres off halfrauds advanced concentrate antifreeze put it in just before winter,
its in a garage (not a great 1 but its still inside)
ive checked it over a few times and started it every now and then just to make sure its all ok,
its been off road and in the garage since the begining off october.

now obviously i need a new water pump but do you think there will be any more damage further down the line?

i filled it up and started the car, the only leak i could see was from the hole in the pump, but i didnt let it pressureise so unsure if theres anything else?

then engine will be coming out soon for some work so i can check it properly then, and it wont be used before this,
im just surprised this has happened.

is this a common fault on the cossie pump?

if its not coincidence i could cry

Hard to say really. Stick a new pump on it and see what happens!

thats the thing, my m3 is on the drive with the same antifreeze in it and thats fine.
im just surprised that as the car has been sat in the garage unused and this had broken.

thanks for the offer tone but i will put a new 1 on, ive had 2 fail on me now and wont take the risk of a 2nd hand 1.
might even go to an electric 1.
