Well my sky box was being a tool and i eventually got it back on but says there is no sky+ functionality. Do i assume the hard drive is fucked then?

I have 3 weeks of eastenders on there to watch

So if it's fucked and i get hd do they need to alter anything on the receiver at the dish?

I'll more than likely get hd but loathe the thought of phoning sky and getting some foreign fucking call centre

Phone sky either at the weekend or the evenings, then you will speak to someone in the UK! Or if you can't do that, ring sky, then on the automated bit press the button that says to cancel your subscription, guaranteed to be put through to the UK then!

When I phoned sky about a month ago when I was thinking about upgrading to +HD, they told me there was a 6 week waiting list for the boxes!

I don't know about fixing the Sky+ box but I do know that if you have Sky+, there's nothing except the box that needs changing to upgrade to HD.

You're quite right about foreign call centres for Sky though! You go through to India for most enquiries except cancellations.

Might be worth threatening to cancel and say that Virgin are offering you their HD for free installation in your area or some such shit.

Ok i called sky and got an english lassie so i could almost understand her

Earliest date i can receive one is the 16th so not bad. I asked if i could collect a box instore in tesco or the like. She didnt know and tesco arent fucking answering i may go and enquire

PS £30 only if its a swap sky plus for hd and you "install" yourself. £60 if you want the man to come and scre it in, get a cup of tea and suck you off. I know i'm scottish but i'm leaning towards the £60 option.

The overair software download is easy to do.

Hold backup on the top of the box, pull power cable out and plug it back in and keep holding backup until the 4 lights on the front light up.

There is new HD box's came out last week which come with a 500GB hard drive standard instead of the 300GB tho only 250gb is personal storage on them

If you press pause and it comes up with 'sky + not functioning' etc, it sounds like the card needs re-pairing. Unfortunatly it will mean a call to sky, but should be all it needs. Could try forcing a software download, but i doubt it will help.
If your going for an upgrade to HD at least now you should get the new box with the bigger hard drive, (smaller sized box too) would be gutting if you ordered it 2 weeks ago and got the last of the old ones!!

Sky were pretty good for me the other day!

On saturday I rang them to see if i could get an upgrade to Sky+ and well originally spoke to sales and he weren't gonna budge on anything, told me it would be £60 for this and £40 for that, and cos i dont have a HD ready TV it would cost me this much extra per month blah blah blah so i said that im thinkin of goin with virgin as they can give me this and that with no upfront payment just monthly payments (i cant even get virgin where i am ) so he gave me the number to go through to "thinking of cancelling" got a guy (who lived in scotland ) that didn't stop flirting and was obsessed about bring my birthday forward! lol he told me the same as the previous guy so i told him that was the whole reason that i was thinking of just leaving sky and going to virgin! with that he went quiet for a mo then came back and said i would need to make a payment of £44 today which i told him i couldn't do! so he said hold on a minute....went quiet then come back again and said your birthday has come early!! lol then went on to say if you take the movie package then i will give you the box for free and the installation for free, and after one month you can remove the movies if you like and go back to paying the lower amount!

Free sky+HD box + installation for free!!! lol

he could have come out this week but im at work all week so is coming out next week!!

fooking result!!! well chuffed!! roll on the 17th!!! lol

however the box seems to whir constantly now and wont turn on like "normal".

mine did that

afterwards the box was fucked but i think it's the hdd that was screwed as normal programs were fine, just the recorded stuff was bollocked, same with the live pause functions etc

dojj no hotter than usual and it sat out on a table top. to start with it's come back on and just the plus bit wouldnt work. Now though you try and turn it on and it just whirs for ages and wont go on. Keeps sort of resetting and whirring again

What size, how old and cost please? My multiroom has a plus box but it's an old one with v small drive. COuld do with a bigger one.
