Mondeohno has spark suppressing traction control, IIRC some fiestas had a TC system operated by the brakes that can't be switched off presumably this is whats fitted to the Escy in question.

The wording in my Focus manual is:

The brake traction control system(BTCS) cannot be turned off.

Its states this system is fitted to 1.4l Zetec - SE and diesel engined Focus.

All other Focus are fitted with TCS. Which according to the manual reduces wheelspin with a combination of BTCS and reduction in engine torque.

So theres the differences and i'd hazard a reasonable guess at the GTI being fitted with the former.
