Default Computer virus going about.

I've just had a pretty bad virus on my comp which has been a right ball ache to get rid of, it calls itself "Vista Antvirus 2010" although the name changes depending on what operating system you have.

The little "windows update" symbol appeared so it all looked official at first, until it installed itself. It was the usual bollocks about purchase this and purchase that and you'll be safe for life shit.

Here is a screen shot of said virus in action:

Anyway, if anybody on here gets this same virus (apparently it's pretty common) then visit this website and follow the instructions on how to get rid of it.

System restore might be your easiest option

Start > All programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore.

So what cases it? Is it a pop-up that comes up at the bottom? I got a new laptop with vista and about £100 worth of norton security on it, so will this block it?

Thanks

I plan on it mate but I was thinking incase that didn't work.

Some of the reports on that link you posted confuse the shit out of me so if its not straightforward I will be on to plan B. I have the required files on my desktop now so I will transfer them onto a usb stick and have a go, as per those instructions, on the home pc in the morning.

you guys want to look at hips sandboxes and behaviour blockers instead of outdated antvirus sulutions, defensewall killed this dead in its tracks on mine yesterday and mamutu warned me as well so it had no chance

agreed mate it used to be ok and just ok but newer versions are shit, people should read reviews before installing, mailware is too advanced now and a firewall, antivirus solution is not enough

a antivirus relies on signatures, somebody releases a new mailware that there is no signature for so it bypasses it, for people who insist on using avg, at least install threatfire, its a behaviour blocker its free and would have stopped them getting infected

Also running as a limited user and not administrator is one of the best security measures to take and takes 5 mins to do, just have an admin account as well if you need to download anything and just switch accounts
