Default MK2 Focus Power Steering Pump Problem

Hi all, not really posted on here before but I was wondering if anyone could help me with a problem I've got.

I've got a 05 plate mk2 Focus 1.6. A little while a go the power steering pump decided it didn't like holding it's fluid anymore and began leaking. I had a mechanic friend look it and he rebuilt it as best as he could as a temporary fix. This was because he couldn't get a new one as Ford won't sell the pump to the public?? Is this right? Does anyone know why?

The only other option is to have the pump refurbed but this isn't really an option as the car is needed for daily use.

Also, if I were to bite to bullet and take it to ford for a new one how much a wallet raping should I expect?
