Default Knives...so who's into them?

Seems there's a lot of people on here that can appreciate the finer things in life, such as nice cars, nice watches and so on.

So how about knives?

I just purchased another knife, a rather small but very nice Japanes folding knife with damascus blade consisting of 65 individual layers.
Very small and light knife with very smooth action and lovely details!

Sharpest knife I've ever had I think...

I have loads, varying from machetes to the one I've just bought!

Some are used for a year or so and then given away as they wear out, but some are just too 'personal' if that makes sense?

Still a couple of collectable ones I'm after, thinking of buying an old shopcounter (old wooden one from the thirties/fourties!) with glasstopped counter, so I can display them without people touching!

I really don't like Bali knives and all these dagger like things and 'medieval' crap.

I like machetes and other 'tactical' knives where I mainly look for good ergonomics and quality of materials used.

Other than that I love custom folding knives!!!

Is it a genuine stanley knife or just a cheap copy though?

I've got some cookworks in a block and they sharpen themselves! I had to get 'em online from a place called Argos......Shhhh!

I used to like knives at one point in my life,I probably only have the odd lockknife knocking about in my garage now.
I have owned a couple of butterfly and flick knives in the past.I also had a bullet knife, that was pretty cool over 20 years ago mind.

Never seen the fascination with knives to be honest, for practical purposes (outdoor work/camping etc) yeah but why on earth you'd want a load of 'tactical/fighting' knives etc is beyond me, not like you can use them for anything! A guy i used to know when i was younger was obsessed with knives/nun-chucks etc and he was a fuckin wierdo, certainly not the type to be trusted with weapons lol!!

My dad has a great collection of knives locked in his gun cabinet and and about 10 black widow catapults. All mine from when I was about twelve. He took them as fast as I saved for another.

Why would you need knives unless you were going to use them? That's like buying deactivated guns for them to sit about the house.

Do you have them on racks in your living room like neds usually do with their samurai swords?

Why is it that people make sweeping statements such as: 'knives are for people that can't fight with their fists' ?

First of all: I use my folding knife for a variety of things...once you're used to having one on you, you tend to use it to open boxes, remove film/foil of packages, open bags, cutting out newspaper articles, cutting through ropes, prying things open, cleaning your fingernails and so on...
As far as tactical knives go: I like the security a knife gives me in a situation where having a knife on me can make the difference between serious trouble/injury or not, and even possibly life and death. And that can range from cutting through my seatbelt or someone elses, to disabling an attacker.
As for fighting: I like to think I'm quite capable at 6,4" , 95 kilograms and a solid muay Thai background, but I do realise that not everybody fights fair...
A knife is not to be used as a weapon to intimidate or to be used outright but as a last resort they work rather well.

As for the other knifes: same as nice jewelry, watches, pens and so on, they are handcrafted pieces of art. You cannot help but appreciate the level of detail and attention that goes into the engraving, the sharpness of the blade itself wich has taken hours and hours to perfect, and the smooth action of the mechanical part of the knife.

I just hate the knife culture up here with a passion, StephTell. It's nothing to do with you personally, and fair enough if you are sensible.

But a lot of neds, etc, tend to buy knives to make up for their insecurities and to look hard in front of their mates. Take the front of the samurai swords and rotties away, and what do you have? Fuck all in most cases. Lol it's all just about intimidation, which is fair enough between themselves, but not when innocent people end up in a bad way because of these cunts.

But again, if you are a genuine knife collector/enthusiast then this is nothing to do with you.

if your such a hard 6,4",95 kilo muay thai fighter why do you need the secrurity of a knife if you carry one you have to be prepared to use it and possibly kill someone

Lol, the comment of the mis-guided.
We have a few de-acts, one of which used to be used quite often, til we bought a better one, and got it de-activated due to it being a very nice gun, and we wanted it on display. We've also got antique guns that just 'sit about the house' but that are sometimes used for re-enactment purposes. If you're proud of your hobby, why not have a few de-acts/antiques on the wall? IMO they look pretty good if in the right place
They're also good if you want a gun that you can't (legally) have on an fac/sgc due to them being section 5 or something. Go out, get a replica, looks good, and can be cycled if it was done before the new laws which meant they just weld up everything
There's more to reps/de-acts than just'sitting about the house'

At the end of the day, guns are just a hobby, just like cars are to alot of people on here.

Sorry to have gone of on a tangent a bit

Cossiejay:

Your comments don't make sense...I never said I was such a hard fighter, just that I think of myself as quite capable.
You ask me why I need the security of a knife, well I answered that one earlier: not everyone fights fair.
I also can't remember me stating anywhere I wouldn't be prepared to use a knife when the need arises (although killing someone is a little ott) so why the smiley?
