right im confused here... about piston clearance...
Say i had my block honed.. (which i did.. ) so i had a clearance of 3.5 thou...
then am i not right in thinking 20 thou is actually a MUCH smaller clearance than mine everone is saying it too much of a clearance.. isnt it too small if anything?

Not according to the two meetings I had, the numerous letters that went backwards and forwards, and the personal recommendation I had to give.

Still, and bearing in mind my father worked in motorsport at the time, I don't want to cast any dispersions on Spencers death. That was an awful thing to happen................. at least I walked away from mine.

Imagine you have a big chocolate cake (shaped like a piston for this example ), cut it into 1000 identical pieces, now take out 20 pieces with one hand, and 3 pieces with the other, which hand has more cake in it?

Still think 20 thou is smaller then 3.5 thou?

20 thou = 0.020 inches or 0.508 mm

3 1/2 thou = 0.0053 inches or .0889 mm

20 thou would burn oil like crazy and rattle like a cement mixer full of ball bearings

One thou or 0.001 inches is the exact thickness of a green Rizzla paper to give all you metric youngsters an idea of what real measurments are made of
