Expect to be in a court room with loads of people wearing silly wigs and cloaks, you will have a defendant or defendants in the dock, the prosecution pig person will read out the evidence that the filth on the street have put together then the defendant's solicitor will argue the case and defend the defendant.

At the end of the delivery of evidence and the trial, could be a day or it could be ten, you and your fellow jury members will leave the room and decide what verdict to pass based on the evidence heard in court,

that just about sums it up

two weeks of sitting around waiting for your name to be called out and hope you dont get put on to a case that lasts months!! i did it a few years ago was interesting but very boring when your not in court, if you havent been called in by 2.30 they usualy send you home, take a book and watch the clock, good luck with it mate

yeah pretty much as Jimmy has explained it tbh! I haven't been on jury service, its something i would love to be called to do, i have been in the witness box tho as i had to give evidence in front of a jury and everything. Must be very interesting stuff from the Juror's point of view! Once you get over the people who are in there, what they are wearing and how the talk of the court goes you will be fine! x

As above really did it too!! boring but then got paid to do it so wasnt too fussed!! mine was someone who had smuggled 3 sacks of canabis resin!!!!As said just hope its not a long lasting case, even worse would be something like child abuse or similar, dunno if i could sit there thru something like that as normally u have to look at pictures, listen to witnesses etc.

I've been once.

Ended up on a horrific case at the High Court in Glasgow. Hope I never get called onto one like that again.

To be fair though, that is probably pretty rare. I would love to be on a really interesting one like corruption or embezlement etc. Something where some poor soul doesn't get physically hurt.

i done jury service 12 years ago and it was at the old bailey too!!! lucky didnt have to wait around too long before being called into a case, was on the 2nd day if i remember rightly.I found it a very interesting experience but then all depends what sort of case you might get called up.I dont think i would want to be on a murder case or anything gruesome like that.

The case i was on was some bloke up for rape and 2 counts of assault and amazingly happended not to far from my local area so even more interesting,at the end we found him guilty and he got put away for 12 years!! pretty sure he be out now...

Recently done it myself. Pretty much as Jimmy says.My advice is make friends quick! There's a lot of standing around doing nothing, and a lot of messing around generally. But when you do get a decent case it can be quite interesting. You will get annoyed at out totally shit our justice system is though.

You wont get called up if you have a criminal record, and if your lucky enough to get put on a case, the prosecution and defence have the right to remove you if they dont like the look of you, or they feel you'l be biased!! And im sure in your called up you have to go, regardless!! If you have a holiday booked you have to prove it etc!! And your boss cant refuse you to go i think

Yeah thats why its known as a 'fair trial'. The public decide if he/she is guilty or not, then the courts/judge decides on the sentance.

I went on it and had a week of hanging around doing nothing. Then i got a burgulary and assault case. Someone caught him in the act and gave him a few slaps and claimed self defence. The burgulary was clear cut, but the assault took a bit more time to come to a unanimous decision. He got done for burgulary and assault in the end, and was put away from 5 years. The list of offences and convictions the judge mentioned before sentancing was ridiculous. Why dont we have the 3 strike rule over here!

Yeah you get full pay aswell and also a few quid for dinner money and expenses etc.

You can get out of it in some cases, like if you have holidays booked they will re-schedule it. And if your self employed you can get out of it too if you can prove youll lose business/contracts etc.

Wrong, you CAN do it if you have a criminal record but it has to be over 2 years old (or there about) and it cant be for anything that serious or if you've had to do prison.

You CAN put it off, but only once! And then you have to go up to do it whenever they summons you, no excuse over the next year with 2 weeks notice.

I had a holiday to Vegas starting the day after my jury service ended, so was praying for it not to overun! Didnt want to put it off as I had another holiday later this year and didnt want it to come up then.

Wrong.
I think you have to be good for 5 years and never had any serious convictions.

i know someone else who go held in contempt as he didnt want to be there he got a £350 fine and a criminal record but like he said £350s nothing compared to the £1600 he would have lost from work and the £40 a day they offered him and the criminal record means no more jury duty

I just got my confirmation letter through, bugger.

It says they pay up to £31(ish) a day. But quite a few people in this thread say they got full pay.

Whats the deal?

My accountant is going to do me a letter to prove what I earn a day. But I still dont understand how peeps on here are getting full pay when they say they only pay £31... anyone shed some light?

dunno about self employed, but I will receive full pay from my company and then HR/Payrool claim it back from the government/courts service. (and that's more than 60 quid a day!)

Sounds like its possible to claim your normal wages, but they try to make out you cant.
I make over a £100 a day, so only getting 60 will suck!
