I think they mean the bit left on the car is welded on ,block of wood and a big hammer to tweak the bracket forward to give you a few mm you need

answer has been posted by twins already caz ,and sorry if it offends but smashing the car,s hinges over slightly is best left to a man
well big lump hammers are heavy

welded parts both top and bottom need the gentle caress of a lump hammer and knocked in towards front of wing slightly !!!!

will need lots of trial fitting and removing to whack again .....

all i can assume it will be is that the shells have settled slightly differently or knowing fords one car was a friday afternoon job on the production line ,or your car or the car which the door came from has been in a prang at some time and wing welded on in slightly wrong position ....

hope you get it sorted caz

me personally hun with the car it is would do things slightly different

i would fit door as it is and use lump hammer on the leading edge of wing to smash it backwards
gap then would be sorted but you may then need another wing

easiest way to explain is this picture the NEW door on the car ,with tight gap-quarter as you explained and a mahooosive gap to wing

now picture this the door is physically held in place by the 2 front hinges (which are welded to a pillar)
and also the door latch on the b pillar (inside door check on qtr)

so obviously the door needs the whole lot shifting towards the wing to even the gap out !!!!

the welded on hinges need knocking in towards the back part of the wing with the big gap !!
this in turn will even out the gap on qtr and wing
only problem now youve moved the door to suit is that the latch or striker plate may not catch the door now
this may need shimming out or spacing/packing with some washers to bring it out to the correct position !!!!!!

fookin ell hope you understand after all that am off for a beer now

anyway its not that difficult to sort if still stuck
just look for the dodgiest garage around and ask them to fit it!!!

will be done in no time im sure (NOT JOKING)

its called gypsy engineering .... brutal but soooo goood !!

lol thats what i was worried about...obviously knocking it over so its closer to the wing, but then its pulling the door further from the latch...

enjoy ya beer! lol

glad you got it hun

if i was sexest and only around the corner would offer to come show you how to do it in a patrck swayze/demi moore ghost ,making clay type procedure ...... would be messy though .... oh and im on my 4th beer now

thats all feel drained now hahahahah

all seriousness though caz it will take a lot of time as if you knock hinges too far ,wing will have to come off to knock back the other way
(not much room to swing lump hammer in back of the wing

process will be whack, whack ....... ouch my fookin finger

fit door and check ...
whack,whack refit door and check
until its right

just dont watch unless you like crying and watching your car being abused sometimes best not too
if ya know what i mean

In my old place of work we used to have a special tool that went over the hinge, then with a bit of force you bent the hinge forwards or backwards to open or close the gap.

anyway whats wrong with good ol british gypsy engineering then ???

have seen much worse done to cars on the production line as they being built ....
its fun seeing new cars on the production line being built having all the dints repaired and painted etc etc before they even been built

thing is when your doing bodywork even with genuine parts stuff can line up shit,so you need to understand that twatting stuff and taking a shaving off bolt hole sometimes is the only answer,i find if you twat the hinges they can fit mint, same with bonnets that are adjusted on the bolts but still do not fit and won't line up you need to shove them over physically,i even have had genuine doors that stick out top and bottom and either side and you need to start using blocks of wood and bending the door to fit,if you loved your car and saw how a bodyshop has to make stuff fit you would not like it lol.

Aint that the truth.
My favorite was when you used to have to twist a bonnet by grabbing either side trying to get one side lower. The cracking noise as it went into shape was always weirdly satisfying

i have seen cars getting twatted with everything from hammers to sledge hammers to transits and range rovers pulling a chain connected to a bent car to straighten them.
yeah jigs are great but some cars don't need jigging just a crafty pull if the dozers fooked
we once fixed a tranny hit up the arse by chaining it up and driving off,the van kicked its back end up about 4 ft in the air but fook me it come out perfect lol,it was hit on the m56 whilst sat stationary ouch!!
