Thinking of buying a esco cossie rep...
Will be the third car to my current collection and probably just on the weekend.
It's a 1.8 xr3i
What sort of options do I have?
Will I need a floor plan to do the engine conversion?
Thinking about doing a zetec turbo conversion but would like rear wheel or 4x4 drive.
Is a standard cossie RWD or 4x4?
can I use a rs2000 4x4 system?

They don't always look shit. 99% of the time they do, but I know of 2 reps that have been absolutely spot on. One of those (which was used in the magazine advert for Greenlight Insurance for years, and bet no one on here who didn't know it was already a rep would be able to tell, but was broken a couple of years back).
But the second part I agree with. You'd be better off with something else rather than a poor rep.

If done properly and 'fully' so its actually a replica and not a look-a-like (which most dont even look anything like anyway ), then they 'can' look ok. But by the time you make it look half decent youll be approaching bottom end cossie money anyway. Many people do it if they cant afford the insurance or to run a real one etc, but id bet that if they insured it as a replica with everything declared you wouldnt save 'that' much more.
I dont know what other 2 cars you have, but my advice would be to sell the other 2 and put the money towards buying a real one if you can.

If you want an Escort Cos so much that you'll spend Time & money on a rep put it all towards getting the real thing even if its one at the bottom end of the price range.
If thats out of the question go for a good condition S1, S2, RS2000 etc that you won't loose money on when you come to sell. People will always buy a well looked after car & not a cheap copy.

A good replica escort cossie isnt that expensive to create. I think the biggest problem is getting the wheels to look right on it.
This is my old car. Will be selling this soon as soon as I can find the keys for it.
I must admit it does not look to bad on the road.

Reps are just gay.... save your money and embarrasment and just save to buy a real one, or buy a saph cosworth instead, or an Rs2000, both great cars and much more fun than a crap rep ..
How much of a bell-end would you feel EVERY time someone asks you is it a real one, having to answer no it's a barry'd xr3i?

Theres always going to be tell tail signs if done 'on the cheap'. That second red one does look good as far as replicas go. I think its the little things and the attention to detail that makes a good one or a bad one in my opinion. Things like bits hanging off, and poorly fitted parts, lights, bodykits etc. But the main tell tail sign is the front calipers being on the wrong side. Anyone with a real one will almost always be able to tell in a few seconds, but i bet most other people would be fooled by a good one.

the worse thing with a rep is that every boy racer in there saxos and puntos try to race you and if its only based on a 1.6 lx or even a xr3i they will fly past.A local knob head raced me in mine in his golf gti,for the next 6 months he was bragging how is golf was faster then a escort cosworth!!!!!!!!!

soem cant afford the 15k price tag most es-cos are at, and a rep is as good as they'll get to the real thing for insurance reasons maybe.... if its done professionally and not bodged up it'll be a decent looking rep, although most out there have been done to a not as pro effect as others these days, take your time and look for a good one mate, theyre few and far between but theyre worth it.
p.s. i'd have one no probs i cant afford at present to have a real es-cos, does that make me a pikey fooker for wanting a car to be a replica of a car i think is one of the best looking fords ever? me personally i think that it would be not too shabby!

If you want one to pose around in and look like you have an escort cossie then fine, buy one, its not my thing personally, but im sure most people wont realise.
But dont then start trying to make it actually go like a real one, you'll spend a fortune doing it, more than buying a real one probably, and it will be worth hardly anything at the end.
So if you want to progress from a slow replica ot a fast one, then just sell it on and buy the real thing.

my car that im building atm is basically a cossie rep, but with a rs2k front end, i cant see the problem with rep's myself, not everyone has the money to buy the real thing, and might not want the constant hassel of fixing the thing to only break down again anyway. when i had my old saph cos i couldn't enjoy it through fear of it breaking, which is why i'v spend load's on zt'ing my 'rep' rather than wasting it on a real one.

Reps are just not worth it. I mean you could spend a few grand getting all the parts to make it look like a cossie. And at the end of the day your going to be driving around in a rep! Everyone is going to race you and I guarantee there is going to be a point where you go "I wish I had a real one"
Get a RS2000 or GTI for now, dont do anything to it and save up for a real one.

They are still going for strong money, in fact this year one sold for £47k
There are just a lot on the market at the moment due to the recession and hence why they are taking longer to sell, but cars are still making £20k.
The good ones will only ever go up in value, in 10 years time they won't be worth £6k believe me.
Oh and I don't mind reps providing they are done really well, it's the shoddy ones that let the side down, the second red one above looks nice .

i dont think a rep would look half as bad if it had no whale tail, this is the only reason the majority of people recognicse a cossie imo
my mate didnt beleive me there was a saph cossie because it had no whale tail
EDIT: but i surpose thats what people want, to be recognised as in a cossie

Wow! Please show me where these £6k cars are please as ill buy the lot and give you a good drink out of it. You havnt been looking at the scams have you by any chance and think there actually genuine? There still £10k-£20k+ depending on condition, with the odd shitter going for just under £10k maybe every now and then.
