Default Windscreen Chip Repairs

Whats the score with these then?? I picked up a small chip the other day on the M40.

Theres loads of adverts on the radio & TV about free chip repairs through your insurance. I can't help but think whilst it may not affect your NCB, it'll still register as a claim on the policy and load my premium.

Anyone any experience with this? It seems repairs are about £70 if you pay yourself. Any recommendations? Autoglass?

Cheers

I used to work for RAC AutoWindscreens and afaik they were free to people with Fully Comp insurance. I don't know if there is any costs added to insurance at renewal time, but Ive never heard anyone complain that it has put the price up.

Insurance companies prefer it as its cheaper than replacing the whole glass and probably only get charged £20 or so per 1 done. So quick cash for windscreen company and cheaper bill for insurance company.
