I think it depends entirely on how you use the car.
Racing spec 15W50 for instance might be a great idea in a summer or track day car but unsuitable for an everyday car used in winter.

You're probably not being serious but I think you wouldn't go wrong with that either. I do the same with my RST, only the Cossie gets extra treatment.
Most modern oils will be better than what was available when the Cossie was new.
The Ford manual for example requires oil conforming to the "API-SG" standard. Today you will have trouble finding anything worse than API-SJ which is already 2 classes better than SG.
Initially the oil viscosity spec for the Cossie was 5W50, but was later changed to 5W40. Probably because they found out the extra reserve at the top end of the temperature scale wasn't needed. And because it was cheaper to stock as it was also used in other Ford cars while 5W50 was an exotic cossie only thing.
I really don't like the idea of using 15Wxx or 20Wxx oil though as that is a seriously thick soup when cold. Especially at the current temperatures. Fine for a track car but dreadful in a road car fired up at -20 degrees...

No mate, I am being serious. All my previous Cossies have had the same and get abused every time they have been used. They always burn it off quick as fook so dont bother with expensive oil ![Surprised](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/bigcry.gif)
