iPhone people!
I currently have a 3g iPhone and my contract is up.
I'm tempted to upgrade to a 3gs, but to be honest I'm happy with what I have.
Now my question is what are the future plans regarding a new phone this year? Is one going to happen? If not I'll probably upgrade. But if there is something better coming out in the next 12 months I think I'll wait?
So anybody have any info??

Grapevine is saying June/July for a new iPhone. Upgrading from a 3g to the 's' isnt really worth it. Nice, but not worth the cash. I'd wait until march/april and see what happens.

That was my line of thinking, the 3gs doesn't do much extra. I'm not bothered about video...
Think I'll wait! From a scan round the internet June/July seems like it might be the time....

But is it worth signing a new contract then having to wait a year to then get a potential new phone that comes out in June?
I'm very happy with what I have got, and can live with the speed it runs at now!
If there is no chance of a new phone this year I will upgrade to the 3gs.

If they do anything, it's likely to be a 'nano' version, so smaller, with less features.
The 3GS is a lot faster than the 3G (yes I've been sad and done back to back tests with mate's phones) and the compass aspect opens up more apps. If I was in your position, I'd get a 3GS and sell the 3G on for decent money.

The S is quicker, but is it 18months and a wedge of cash quicker?
36 hours day battery life on a smartphone is acceptable, on par with most

I was thinking they could do a higher resolution screen, better battery life?
Dilemma time!
How long before a phone release will details start to creap out?
I just know if I do upgrade Apple will release the greatest phone ever

I think the next phone may either have a hd screen or be a smaller pared down one ( nano style )
I'd flog the 3g and get the 3gs, enjoy it now rather then enjoy the idea of a new one for 7 months!

See if you can try one before you commit, you may well be happy with your 3g, it might be because it was my first iphone and I couldnt get past not having the fastest one.......personally I love the 3gs over the 3g but my recommendation is try before you buy

5 Things The iPhone 4G Will Bring In 2010
June 19th, 2009
So the iPhone 3G S is finally out in the UK and we can look forward for the next version now. Like a Swiss watch, Apple will almost certainly release the fourth version of its celebrated and revered smartphone, the iPhone in June 2010.
And unlike other mobile manufacturers, it is quite easy to guess what Apple will add to every new version because there’s only one version of the iPhone released every year (so they better get it right).
Now that the iPhone 3G S has been outed, let’s have a look at what the next version of the iPhone may bring in next year.
(1) 64GB Storage
That’s a dead cert. Every year, Apple doubles the storage size of the top end iPhone model. This is set to happen in 2010 as the price of Flash memory drops down and manufacturers move to 32nm mass production.
Whether this will influence the buying decisions of customers remain to be seen though as many potential buyers may choose to stick to cheaper, lower capacity models.
(2) 5-megapixel camera with flash
By June next year, 12 megapixel camera phones will have already conquered the top end of the market, leaving the iPhone’s 3.2-megapixel lagging well behind. Expect Apple to boost the pixel count to 5-megapixel and to add a flash as well.
That said, the manufacturer could also decide to stick to the same resolution but significantly improve the quality of the camera by adding features found only on standalone cameras.
(3) Higher Screen Resolution
The screen resolution of the iPhone remains stuck at 320×480 and has been so for 3 years already. Could the iPhone 4G bring in 800×480? Maybe. A number of iPhone competitors, notably the Toshiba TG01, the HTC Touch HD and a couple of Acer, already offer this resolution.
Even the cheap Nokia 5800 XpressMusic comes with a 640×360 resolution screen. Obviously, a higher screen resolution will mean more content displayed, support for high quality videos and sharper images. But it will have a negative impact on the battery life. That said, the iPhone could also have an OLED screen, a rumour that has been circulating around since last March.
(4) Touch Charging
Palm has introduced touch charging for its Pre smartphone and this is one cool thing that is sorely lacking from the iPhone. It is not that expensive to produce – Crunchgear puts the price of components at $5 – and will certainly be replicated by other manufacturers before the next iPhone is out.
(5) More “Feature” Peripherals
We dearly hope that Apple decides to build a coherent peripheral ecosystem around the iPhone. The App Store is working wonders and MobileMe does its job.
However, wouldn’t it be wonderful if the company launched something like the wireless HDMI base unit our April fool was based on. Feature peripherals – which would add more features to the iPhone – could significantly add firepower to the iPhone and help it finally crack the couchpotato market where the Apple TV had limited success

o2 are doing a contract thats Ł15 month unlimited texts and internet with a few minutes.
I'd keep the phone. Move over to a sim only deal like above. My mate wanted a 3gs when you add it up with insurance it's around Ł700 a year for a phone. Is it really worth it?

My 3gs with o2 cost me Ł432 per year for unlimited texts, 3g internet, bt openzone and cloud wifi and 600 mins per month so fuck knows what your mate is paying Ł700 for unless he pays Ł22 a month insurance!

Ive just signed up to a 18 month deal for an iphone with orange, that was 989 quid.
89 quid up front for the phone
18 * 45 a month for 1200 mins
18 * 5 a month for 3gb of tethering
silly amount of money to pay for a phone, but I needed the tethering anyway, and I already pay not far off that a month for the minutes and internet i use, and I get to keep my magic numbers which is useful to me (i have loads as ive been with orange for years now and they keep adding more)
TBH im not convinced i'll stick with the phone as I really dont like crappy on screen keyboards, so will probaby end up back with my HTC again which has a proper keyboard, but as it was so little money to have the iphone it will be useful as a spare if nothing else, and maybe it'll grow on me if I give it a fair shot.
