Default Free Laptops and Internet......

....for dole-bludgers.

For fuck sake, Gordon Brown. This cunt needs voting out. In a country thats struggling to get back on its feet and has pensioners who can't afford to turn their heating on and roads that aren't being gritted, the clever cunt decides to give 270,000 laptops to people that can't be bothered to get off their arses and get proper jobs, apparently so they can monitor the progress of their kids at school?

You can just imagine a sudden abundance of laptops appearing on Ebay, so the skanks can buy some more fags or booze.

That is an absolute f@*cking disgrace!!!

Ive not got the internet in my flat because cash is a bit tight so why should "low income" families get it!!!

Things like that are a luxury and you need to work hard for luxuries in life!!!

Just a total vote winner for low income families in the build up to an election!!!

"Or the dad who works long hours and can't make a parents' evening can keep in touch with his daughter's progress, at whatever time of the day or night that he's free."

Doesnt say anything about dole wallers, i think its intended for people with low paid jobs.

why can't he just open a letter from the school at "whatever time of the day or night that he's free"?

are there going to be teachers on hand 24 hours a day to answer any queries? parents evenings over webcam?

Brown needs kicking out asap... as he has done for years now!

Does fat knacker Brown think these people will use these in the honest and sincere way that they are intended.?? To keep up on their kids progress.!?!?

Half these fucker's kids are probably on tags, so unless lap tops can trace them, they've got no chance.

They'll be used to set up dodgy E-bollocks scams, or the Councils finest Mommy and Pappy to surf porn on.

This country doesn't need a government, it needs a right good clean out, they're all a bunch of lying bastards ( politicians ) until they get in power.....then it's same result different fuckin story.

Rant over

I think its a great thing if low income families can be helped to have internet access, it will allow their kids to stand a change doing their homework, it will help them find a better job potentially.

I believe that a decent highspeed internet connection these days in the UK should be considered a human right, and I think its a tragedy if some kids are deprived of it because their families are on low wage jobs etc.

This is a new one on me, fucking joke, and as already said, it's mr honest hard working tax payer that has to foot the bill for these hair brained fucking schemes.

If people stopped having kids as a method to increase their income via the benefit system, then there wouldn't be a need to monitor truancy and progress 24/7 as kids growing up in a stable household would be more likely to go to school and apply themselves rather than being left to run riot with parents who couldn't give a shit about them.

I'm all for an improved education system, but this seems a totally unnecessary expense to the tax payer, and will no doubt not work in the way it's intended.

I hate to sound so pessimistic, but this country is fucked.

PS I don't see how internet access is a human right. Besides, public librarys already provide free internet access.

If some of you thick cunts in this thread who have missed the fact its aimed largely at low income familes who are WORKING had been given a free laptop to use when you were kids maybe you would be able to read properly now and not all be spouting bollocks about it being only for people on the dole, it doesnt say that at all!

A poor kid needs the internet at home to do his homework these days just like a rich kid does, I think anything that helps to level the playing field and give poor kids a chance at a decent education is a good thing!

still doesnt make it right

e.g

you earn 14,500 a year you can have free internet and laptop
you earn 15,250 a year you have to pay for internet and laptop

there will be a cut off somewhere but its just wrong

as someone said above lux items are that you work hard to get them not wait for them to be handed out

i don't see why everyone feels this way we was a poor family and i would of loved to have something like a laptop when i was younger, it would of probably got me in a lot better place than where i am now

Exactly!

I grew up on a council estate, my parents were quite hard up when I was younger as my dad had a poor education and it took him a lot of years and a hell of a lot of hard work before he got to the stage of being fairly well off.

It was a massive struggle to them to buy me my first computer when I was younger and first getting into them at school and needed one at home to further my education with, so if we had access to something like this scheme it would have been great, same for loads of other kids.

If a family is poor, but working hard and trying to better themselves, and the kids want to do their homework and need the internet at home to do it efficiently, or its useful to the parents in helping support their education then I dont see how its anythig other than a good thing for society to give them the tools with which they can succeed.

As far as I can see what Gordon Brown had actually done recently is:

Tax massively overpaid bankers slightly higher
Give the money generated to hardworking but poor families to imrpove their kids education

WTF is wrong with that?

The government makes plenty of fuckups but im really not convinced this is one of them, sure some of these laptops will end up in the wrong hands, and some of them will get flogged to buy drugs or whatever, thats inevitable when dealing with large numbers of people, but if hundreds of thousands of kids benefit from it, then fair play I reckon!

Normally they use a sliding scale when looking into the effects of parentel income in anything to do with education.

Im sure that out of the 270,000 there will be a few people who get a laptop they dont deserve and im sure there will be a few people who deserve one who cant get access to one, its impossible to be totally fair when dealing with millions of people at once, but if only half those laptops end up with the right people, its money well spent IMHO!

i agree with chip, my parents couldnt afford to spend a grand on a computer when i was a kid,,, for a fooking 486dx back then too but if i did have one i might have learned more than "how to surf passionford and ebay" with it,,,, may actually understand how powerpoint works and use Excel also

its a good thing IMO as theres much worse things the government already do like job retraining for people who have been out of work,,, but you must have been claiming benifits for a year to qualify,,,, when i wanted to get some job training i was turned down as i had never claimed off the dole before,,,,, was told i need to claim for a year before they put me on it,,, not to mention that they hold back some of the best jobs for the people who aint had a job for a year and they get first refusal,, thats fucking unfair for someone who WANTS to work rather than someone whos spent a year looking for work

ive just been asked to leave my job,,, took me 48 hours to not only find a job but ive also got another one offered too though i have had to take a pay cut, so to spend a year looking for a job means that someone is doing something wrong,,,, or just dreaming that they are lucky enough a special job will turn up for them

Either way, in the grand scheme of things, I'd have said it's a fairly low priority. The comments pages on Sky News show that the majority of people think the same.

A joke IMO.

The majority of people read papers such as the sun, and make rash reactionary judgements using no inteligence, like yourself

So if you think that agreeing with the majority, most of whom are stupid and uneducated and easily led, is a good thing, then thats great for you, but I dont share that opinion as im capable of thinking for myself.

My grandad never had a calculator and can still add up, but I would have been disadvantaged during my own education without one.

Just because laptops didnt even exist probably when you were a kid, doesnt stop them being a useful educational tool today.

I think its great the government wants to invest money towards something as worthwhile as education, I wish more of the money I paid in tax went on such great causes!

Between 3 and 5 million. Which isn't fuck all when this country is in over a trillion pounds worth of debt, police departments are laying off officers cos of lack of funds, etc etc. Oh and don't forget the £10m it will cost to create and maintain an infastructure to put ALL pupils records on the internet for parents to access (which they probably won't anyway, so that's more money wasted)

Put the money into pulling the country out of recession FFS! Why are we pretty much the only major country still in this recession? Cos numpty fucking politicians keep doing stupid fucking things like this!

Can I be considered a low income household? I could realy do with a new laptop, and would love to not e paying £21 a month for internet. Sadly I can't afford a new laptop, and struggle with the monthly bills. But I bet I ain't getting fuck all for free!
