Default Central heating people?

Hi all

Got a strange problem, basically when I turn the central heating on, it also appears to be heating the hot water too? The icon on the display thing says that only the heating is on, but if I then turn the hot water on, it doesn't click on as the water is already hot.

Any ideas?

Cheers

Rich

If your system has a three port valve, some go to a mid position to do both.

It could be that your copper cylinder is simply holding the heat from it was heated earlier in the day.

Cheers, the hot water comes on for only a couple of hours in the evening, thats enough to do the washing up and then it is also hot enough for a shower the next morning. There's no way it would still be hot in the evening when the timer sets it to come on, but the water is really hot coming out the hot taps, and if i manually flick the hot water on, it doesn't come on because the water is already up to temperature by the central heating, thats been running all day.

Got me confused!

Without seeing it, it sounds like the 3 port valve.

Would that be the 4" square box infront of the hot water tank with pipes coming out of it and a lever thing on top?

Cheers

Yes rich....will have a cable coming out of it too, lever on the side. Not that hard to do if you can drain the system down and replace like for like

Cheers, yes i've followed the wire that comes out of it and it goes to a box on the wall, it plugs in with like a modem cable plug? Have tried moving the lever manually, but it doesn't want to move, and I don't want to push too hard! Will probably get a plumber to come in and rip me off

This is the one I need. I'd do it myself if I didn't have to drain the system, I'd only fook it up!

Probably best to just get a plumber in yeah, i guess it's something you could fuck up and don't want the house flooding out lol!! Oh, just thinking about it, dunno if it would just be the top part that needs replacing, as in you could leave the bit where the pipework goes into? A plumber will no doubt be along in a minute to confirm or deny!

Will do, I could fuck up changing a lightbulb

Although I did put my new kitchen in myself, and i've not yet been killed by falling cupboards or live water coming out the taps!

You don't have to drain the system to fit a new actuator.

If the lever won't move the valve, the whole valve may be U.S.

Remove the actuator, the bit in the photo link, and see it the valve will move.

Well the hot water clicked on just now as it usually does at 6pm, I watched the valve, and it moved right over to one side as it came on. With the water on, I turned the thermostat up so the heating came back on, the valve needle moved to the middle, then turnd the water off, and the valve moved right over to the other side.

So I guess its working again! All I have done is unclip the wiring and clipped it back together again.
