Remember the new RS engine is the Volvo 5 cyl thats been around for years

Everthing is available for them if you look hard enough including steel liners

Guys in Sweden are getting well over 1000bhp from them now

The block HAS a problem, but that is AFTER ford have tried to take some weight out of it, therefore taking the strength out.
BUT it´s fixable with new thicker liners etc.
And yes, 850bhp + gas and over 1000bhp on racefuel

i think the main problem with the volvo engine will be the physical size of it... its massive so it wont be as easy to fit in anycar like the smaller yb?

Thin cylinder walls are problem, hence having to use a liner.

the liner is the problem, st uses a 2.3 rebored to 2.5 this creates a very thin liner.
as jacko said st engines normally expire 330 upwards.
the 2.3 volvo unit can go much further due to thicker liners.
the rs uses the same block as the st but has plasma lined liners iirc.
so should take more heat but upper limits ,who knows?

I guess the only way to find it out is to run proper boost pressure and see if the block cracks under these huge loads.
