Here's a question for you truckers, whats the purprose of the wee bits at the side of the grilles on the DAF's that BillyCabrio posted? Aero? Always wondered when I see them about. Sad aye!

Back when I was 6 years old, every Monday at school you had to write a page long story about what you had done at the weekend. That weekend a lorry had crashed into one of the bridges in the village, wiping out one of the walls. I of course wrote it was a M.A.N. lorry that crashed into the bridge, (I even put in the dots) teacher put a cross and said this should read "a man's lorry". Never was outspoken enough to say it was the type of lorry I meant.

Depends what work you have really, i am lucky, i have a nice contract which is about 90% of my work, and i pick up back loads where ever i can.

I dont think i would ever drive for anybody else given the choice, it's bloody hard work starting up on your own, but well worth it.

wagon
insurance
tax
mot
a mechanic to carry out 6 weeklys
storage (wagon parking)
fuel
tyres
on top of that getting the opperators licence
and then about 6k in the bank sat there incase you break the wagon

roughly about £20,000 to £30,000, you will need a cpc, or employ someone who has a cpc to be your transport manager, there is loads of red tape stuff, but if you go on trucknet, and search for owner driver guides

Pass the JST bit every day going to work in Irvine. Noticed the build up of logs being stored there recently.

Also had some interesting journeys down the A78 trying to avoid flying bark..

A fair bit of money then! I've still not started my cpc yet, I think I better get cracking with it, certainly another money making scam. Well I'm off to bed, parked up on the A17 now near Boston/Spalding. Take it easy chaps.
