whats a collins monitor???
i have just been offered one by a mate, what are they and what they worth???

it lets you monitor the sensors on the cosworth ecu, water temp, map, batt voltage etc

Ł200.. he did say it was for a cossie!! hmmmmm... dont really need it..... should i just buy it??

I don't know mate I assumed they had to be soldered into the ecu plug like the secs monitors

they do have a diagnostic plug i think! will get on to collins as im just about to list it for my mate on Egay...

They do have diagnostic connectors, it has a rectangular connector but it's not anything like a OBD port.

secs monitors are nowhere near as good, as all they tell you is what the sensor is doing, and not what the ecu is seeing. the collins monitor is like a pectel monitor.
yes they have a diagnostic plug. it is the same connector type as the electric windows. on the standard chip it was used to output a pulse that could be connected to an led to read fault codes, but pectel wrote additional code to output the sensor readings, iginition values etc instead.
there is now laptop software that motorsport developments sell that can read this data, as well as datalog it etc.
