Default US postage service?

Hi all,

I ordered a car part from the states some time ago i have the tracking number which i've been following which states they tried to deliver today. I have been in all day and no one bar the postman has been!

on the website it says...

Attempted Delivery Abroad, December 30, 2009, 1:12 pm, GREAT BRITAIN

Theres nothing through the letter box to say someones been. Who do i get in contact with now? Would they be using the post office?

Many thanks

Not much help, but over here in the states then the postman would have left a note telling you which local post office the package had been taken to, you can then go pick it up or ring them and arrange to have them deliver it again.

I get items shipped from amazon to my work office, sometimes they turn up on a Saturday now the postman knows that the office is closed on a Saturday but the tracking system gets updated with an attempted delivery notice but he comes back on the Monday.

In this instance as the item has been shipped abroad it could just be a case of once the item gets handed over to the UK post office will set the status to attempted delivery, as you've been following it's status did it just arrive in the UK and then get the attempted delivery status or did you see it pass through various UK postal depots?

i orderd stuff from the states some turned up at home and the rest i had to go to customs where they hit me with a $280 handling fee for a plastic bumper. a week later the same thing again this time for the bonet so $560 for handing me my parts over a counter . robbing feckers 3dr party company used by the airport and customs. i found bax global to be the best way door to door no more to pay and saved on the handling fee and a trip to brisbane

If its been sent via USPS, then UPS won't be able to help!! USPS parcels are handled by Parcelforce in the UK, as others have said, track it with them, if not call them. It's easy. You can pay the charges over the phone, no need to wait for the letter.

I had the same with my wheels the other day. It said 'attempted delivery on 24th Dec at 3am! Then the letter came from parcelforce and went down to collect them and pay the vat and fees. Its not a rip off as parcelforce pay the duty, vat and clearence fees on your behalf and hold the goods until you pay.

I also have a couple of other packages due with attempted delivery at 2am early this morning. No dohbt ill get the letters soon, but im gonna ring up and see if i can speed the process up as they said my wheels were at the depot for 5 days before i received the letter.

I usually just track them with Parcelforce, then once that says the parcel is with my local depot, I go down there, pay the fee's and pick it up, even before the delivery attempt. Depends on how desperate I am for it.
