I can highly recommend the Panasonic Lumix TZ7 - bought my other half one for Xmas and it is very impressive.
I have a Canon EOS450D and Panasonic Lumiix FZ18 as reference points by the way.
I paid £222 delivered from the cheapest site on www.pricerunner.co.uk

nikon D40, love it. its a 6mega pixel and the sensor is the same size in the 10 mega pixel. standard lens that comes with it is pretty good.
And strange as it may seem a camera add for the canon eos 7d and just come on???

I reckon if your budget is £200, you should get a GOOD compact, NOT an DSLR.
It's all fair and well buying a camera for that money, but the lenses will wipe you out and you will need at least one additional lens IMO.
Someone I know had a Panasonic Lumix which he paid around £170 for, looked awesome and I would have one of those as well as the DSLR if I had the available funds right now.
