I bought a plasma Lee. Best bet is to go and compare them personally mate. I got recommended a 40 LCD Sony, but it was shit in comparison to the 42 Panasonic Plasma i bought.

I have just bought a 42" LCD, to replace my 37" Panny Plasma.

No contest, buy a Panny Plasma, I am soooooo disappointed with the LCD. Plasma is better for games, footie and films. LCD is better for being used as an ornament.

depends on what sort of room its going into, and what do yu like to watch on it

a lcd is always backlit so it doesnt render blacks as good as a plasma and the viewing angle is lower (in general) on a lcd

plasmas are good for films, but they can have ghosting issues, so not the best for sports like football

the myth about plasmas not lasting long is BOLLOCKS (well it is now) when they was first out they did have issues, but modern units are good for 10 years normally

if you want the best in TV quailty, CRT are stil the best, but who the fuck would have a massive CRT in there living room LOL

I've had my Hitachi 42 inch plasma for over 5 years and it is still very good, especially with sky hd.

Prices have droped a fair bit since I bought it though

i have both, 50" plasma and a 38"(i think )lcd, the picture quality for colours ect are better on the lcd, the 50"is in reality to big lol, and is not too good for sports due to the ghosting . Horses for courses i think

i have a Hitachi Plasma 37" had it for 5 years and still looks amazing , also got LG 42" LCD less than a year and that is fantastic aswell, but you get what you pay for, always check on refresh rates if you are going to watch fast films and play games otherwise you will get ghosting and picture stuttering.
My Hitachi cost £3500 and the LG £900

Do bear in ind that when you go out looking for tv's they may not be set up very well. I recently bought a 46 Sony LCD that was ok whan i first switched it on but picture was not the best. My mate pointed me i the direction of an AV forum where they are quite anal about TV's. There are threads for all the popular models that give recommended setups, not just colour brightness etc as there are lots of advanced setups you can do. Mine is now spot on, Sky HD and Bluray films are the bollox.

ps if anyone wants a decent but cheap BluRay player, Macro have a Sony playerfor 129.99 plus vat,it came out top player in the under 300 range in WhatHifi or summat, plus it comes with 3 free films on bluray.
