ur going to do well if u pick up an DSLR for £200. try ebay. nikon or canon obviously the better choice but sony fuji etc Nikon for me though got the D80 bit dated now but love it, brill camera.

Might be able to pick up a Nikon D40 on ebay from hong kong for under £200 ment to be a very good camera but limited for a DSLR. buy a decent body and upgrade the lens later

i would either buy a canon or a nikon, not because they are better than other makes, but because its easyer to get lens for!

do you want new or secondhand? as alot of people upgrade for the newest flashy machines even when they dont need too!
you can have a nikon d60 (which has only just gone out of production) with a 18-55mm vr lens for about 270 quid!

or if you want new a nikon d3000 is just under 400 quid including a 18-55mm lens!
dont worry about buying other lens straight away, just et used to the controls you have!
theres some AMAZING lessons in the photo area on there and will defo set you on the right track!

thats the main thing i want something easy to get other lenses for as i'd love to know what lense does what for each different pic etc..... as its all new to me.

want the camera to be relatively user friendly, will have to look in the photo area and teach meself. as i dsay its mainly to get decent quality pics through my resto, but with the car being strippd down i'll be spectating at track days and shows rather than taking part so would love to get good pics

a good camera dont mean good photos! its the nut behind the view finder that gets the good photos! most compacts cameras are more than capable to snap 90% of the photos we want to take! the benifit of an slr (in general) is the ability to control the shutter speed (motion blur/freeze time) and the apature (depth of feild control ie the amount of the picture thats in focus) and the ability to change lens for different focal lengths (zoom)

i get what you mean!! would rather chuck meself in at the deep end and buy a decent DSLR now, rather than buying a compact and 6 months down the line thinking, oh shit i should of bought a DSLR in the first place.

Very much agreed with the above. One of my mates has brilliant composition but only an old compact and manages to great great pictures from it.

If you only want to spend a around £200 id go for the D40 which is great to learn about SLRS as while its now not the most advanced camera now it can still get great results.
