hi all, parked my gixxer 1000 up on sorn, my daily runner is getting very tired so i,ve decided i want a mondeo v6 ghia x. i,m very mechanically minded but i,ve never owned a v6 mondeo. 2.8 capri yes, xr4i yes ,xr4x4 yes but never a mondeo. what do you look and listen for apart from the obvious? are they good for big mileage? what mileage should i aim for? all advice is greatly appreciated, cheers in advance

only thing to watch for on the v6's is the headgaskets, apart from that they are pretty bomb proof
i had a v6 mondy on an M reg, it had done 120k when i sold it 4 years ago, and i still see it around now
just make sure its got a decent history and check all the other normal things

The early ones had plastic impellors on the water pumps that always fail, make sure its been upgraded to a metal one! Other than that they are a very good car if been looked after, there are loads on the market at cheap prices so you can afford to be choosy until you find the right one!

I have had loads (about 8 lol), great cars, my mk1 v6 ghia X was a hell of a car for 300 quid, sold it on after 2 years at 178k still going strong!
my current st200 has 120k on the clock and is still fine
as said watch for the water pumps, the black plastic ones are the ones that fail, st200's have the white ones which seem ok

Ive got one mate, on my second V6 mondy now. as already said, watch for head gasket failure, they like to eat bottom arms aswell, and look out for rust. apart from that, there pretty bomb proof. mine got 99k miles on, and it purrs like a kitten. aslong as its got a decent service history, it should go on forever.

The ticking is a sign the headgasket is on its way out. they dont have a timing belt, the engines are chain driven.

Excuse thread hijack ![Red Faced](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_redface.gif)
What are the signs of bottom arms going ?
Ive got an 01 V6 Ghia X, and when the steering wheel in the center it clonks when you try and turn it, either way, like when I reverse out a parking spot, and you give it an initial turn when just moving it takes an effort to move it then clonks and frees up, not huge effort obviously but enough for there to be resistance there, also say when on the road just cruising on a motorway say, same thing, sits there fine, but when want to move lane say, first move of steering is hard, then clonk, then smooth untill steering centered again, then same again.
If not arms any other ideas please ?
