Default Any Windows 7 experts?

Question for any Windows 7 experts out there.

I am looking to upgrade from my Windows XP Home edition (upgrade version) to Windows 7 but other than the "XP Mode", there is nothing on Professional that I actually need, but accordingly to the Microsoft website, "XP Mode" is only on the Professional and Ultimate versions.

Is there any reason for this, or can the XP Mode be used with the Home version?

Also, is there any real need for the XP Mode? What is likely to not work on Windows 7 that does on XP?

Can anyone confirm about this 32bit and 64bit setup? I am running XP 32bit but have a 64bit processor, if I upgrade I know I will need to reinstall the software from a "clean" hard drive (i.e. formatted), but will it give me the option of 64bit or will it take its information from the XP disk it will need to verify that it is a genuine copy?

Ok firstly, yes there is a reason XP Mode is not included in the Home version - money.

They want you to buy the more expensive ones. I couldn't say whether you would need the XP Mode or not, in the early days yes you may, but in a few months it should be less and less likely.

As for 32/64b, it will depend which version you buy as to what version you will install, they are two seperate products so you need to decide in advance.

64b is the future, but is less compatible, depends what you are using the machine for, most home users will be more than happy with 32b

I haven't had one application that I used in XP32 that doesn't work in W764

XP-Mode is a gimmick really.
