Default brake fade

is it just crappy pads that cause brake fade/spongy pedal after very heavy braking ?

I think its down to the brake fluid boiling, when it boils it doesn't compress as easily so it gives you a spongy feel and crap brakes.

Over time the fluid absorbs moisture which lowers its boiling point, you could try renewing the fluid or putting some better fluid in?

That will be your cheapest option to start with, and a good idea if you don't know how old the current fluid is.

Braided lines, new brake fluid, new pads should sort it.

I had major brake fade in the Pulsar once and I literally shit myself, 140mph and no brakes isn't fun.

Private test track of course...

So you would be going even faster at your normal braking point then

If i remember that must be getting on for 180 then

spungy brake pedal is the fluid boiling, if you hit the pedal and it goes to the floor/has extra travel

if the pedal feels normal and theres no brakes thats brake fade, its caused by the organic compound of the pads getting too hot,,,,, this builds up a gas and that is between the pad and the disc so they cant bite and stops the ability to build up friction,,,, also theres solvents in the pads that melt and come to the surface too so the next time you use the brakes there is that layer at the top so the pads are generally fucked adn wont work as well,,, this happens usually the day after/when the brakes have cooled down

there is a way to get rid of the brake fade and thats use "sintered" pads such as carbon lorraine but the down side is there is no brake pedal feel, sintered materials are what is used in paddle clutchs,,,,, thats why they feel either on or off wheres organic clutches have pedal feel,,,, would be the same the pads and some wont like it BUT you wont get any brake fade issues anymore and sintered pads dont build up the gasses

hope that helps
