Default fitted new exhaust, it's given me 30% better fuel economy shocker!!!!

i won't rev above 4200 rpm when it's in park or neutral, it just seems to be hitting the limiter

didn't used to do this before and i've not been able to stick the tester on it

but

on the road, it goes right round to the red line in both 1st and 2nd (not gone any faster)

so, what gives?

the only other mod it's got is a k&n 57i kit

Can not really be the exhaust if she goes well under load!might sound silly but you have not got your foot on the brake at the same time?

Might go into a safe mode

No wonder Dojj's neighbours hate him, I can just picture him just sitting on his drive reving the nuts off his car whilst stationary for hours on end

when i fitted the air filter, i gave it beans and the noise was great, but it was mainly to make sure that i had everthing plugged up and no leaks

and again with the exhaust to see if anytihng had gone wrong

but this time around it hits the limiter at 4200

i was thinking logically in that the combined air filter and exhuast has made the engine run a little lean and so it won't rev beyond the 4200 rpm mark as it's going to run too lean for the cat, but out on the road it runs fine and dandy

theni thought it was something to dow ith the disconnection of, what i can only describe, as the post cat lambda, asuming it's got one before and after because there are 2 thingies in the exhuast with wires in them that look like lambda sensors

and, more improtantly, what if i had a car with anti lag or soemthing and it oculdn't flame out

just collected the car and the exhuasht has made SUCH a HUGE diference it's UNREAL!!!!!!!!

i'm shocked

the trip back, which i've done plenty of times, normally gives me between 23-25 mpg as it's a bit A40 and then a bit traffic etc and i was flaberghasted to see the trip computer reading 32 mpg when i got back home!!!!

the vi moniter has also shown that i use less throttle and the load thingy meter shows i'm using about 10-15% less load on the engine

not to mention it seems to shift up quicker through the gears, as in earlier, it woldn't go into 4th until at least 40 mph nbeofre, but now it's clicking up at 35 or so in some case

and its not like i've driven differently, i still drive it up to 3k prm before it changes up and stuff, and it doesn't feel any different other than it seems to have lost about 500kgs of weight

it feels like i've had a trailer on the back unhooked, or the handbrake is off now, it's immense!

and, seeing as i've done such a good job of talking about just something as simple as an exhaust, it woul dbe rude of me not to tell you who i got it from

so step forward and take a bow j p exhausts

i've not done 10k in the car in 3 years mate so that would have been a bit silly

the exhaust has been bent for about a year now, so i just bit the bullet and ordred one and it really has made a huge difference

ok, so the last run that normal does me a 17-19 mpg return has just done me a 24 and a bit so the figures are doing the talking

will have to see what it asys when i get to the pub meet tonight to give it some real world credability, but that's going to be mainly motorway so if it makes less than the usual 33 there and back at normal driving speeds i'll know for sure

The mondy auto box DOES have a limiter, well the ecu for the box does anyway, why it was not working before I can't say, but the 4200 is normal, otherwise it can damage certain internal components in the box.

JP exhausts
not far from me, only in Macclesfield
i bought a car off rick's (workshop manager iirc) grandmother
my dad had an exit pipe made for his sieries 3 landy, amazing quality work, not cheap but WELL worth it!!!
did all the work on drew bowers Nemesis and wildcat trucks. saw one of them in there a while back, eas a bare rolling shell but already looked incredible.
the mini will be going in for a custom manifold when its all up and running to replace the hacked up and stuck back together c20xe one which is currently on there
