It is, and way better than vista BUT i just had a couple of niggly issues to do with hardware(which is not old) and also i found myself trying to do things that you can only do in xp, and for me xp is just easier and feels more stripped down, i prefer that

Horses for courses really.

My W7 is in the post somewhere on route to me. Bought a dell that allowed upgrade.

I was worried about getting vista and i think it's ok to use However i don't do much tbh.

Can i install W7 over vista without wiping my HD? Sorry i'm not up on puters...

all windows OS's are based on the same core, but have different interfaces.

i prefer 7, although takes some getting used to, also like the backwards compatibility, EPIC fail on Vista IMO.

Think XP is still very good too.

But why pay double the price for the hardware and have a windowed linux front end?

I had beta of 7 on my netbook and went back to XP. New machine will have 7 on though.

give the virus makers some time and 7 will be just like vista.

There were plenty of updates already by the time i binned windows 7 a couple of weeks ago.

Even parallels runs it better than a my old pc did, and that had 8gig of ram lol.

Front and back end support for 22 years. I have an opinion as I come into contact with these daily working for a newspaper/magazine publisher.

well then thats a very strange comment your making mate as it seems a very uneducated one.

Either that or youre extremely blinkered against Apple for some strange reason like a lot of I.T Support people are, I work with a few every day.

If pcs were better and OSx was just linux then why would youre company or half the companys i go to every day spend so much on macs.

All they would need is Linux (free from lots of different places)

And a shitty old pc with a nice monitor.

My mac may of cost a fair bit more than a windows pc but in 13 months i had had zero problems- which to me is worth a few ££££..

For what i use my laptop for it was the best extra money i ever spent on a laptop..

One good example is going from hibernation to actually being able to search the internet takes under 5 seconds, plus no need to defrag, no virus hassle etc

Macbooks rock

I couldn't go back now- windows 7 is so much better and nicer to use once you use it for a while- no slower to boot up than xp on my pc and alot quicker for doing most tasks than xp ever was
my xp was a clean install not that long before i upgraded to windows 7 aswell so its not like i went from a bogged down windows xp to a fresh windows 7 install

Depends what you want an os for doesnt it, if you only do web browsing and msn etc then its a waste of £100, all you'd get for it is eye candy.

Never said it was bad by the way, its good.

windows 7 is vista with a modified front end and some tweaks, it is a total con

there is lots of modified vista versions out there that are a lot better, they could of brought a service pack out for vista to do exactly the same job but they knew it people would not be fooled into buying it
