Things are getting a lot worse. I was laid off a year ago and got myself another job in february, although I hate it I have to keep it as its all there is at the moment. Hoping to get another job as soon as possible though. Feel really bad for all those without work at the moment, I know how it feels.

I was out of work for a few months after being made redundant (the time I broke my escort), then applied for another job. The job I went for, they said I was too technical for (team leader for a 1st line IT support role).

I was shortlisted for the TL role, had to do 2 tests and they had over 80 applications. The agency called me back after all the tests and 1-1 interview and said my technical ability would have been wasted in the 1st line TL role, but would I consider 2nd/3rd line support techie.

After accepting and contracting for 11 months, I was made permanent in June this year. Quite a bit more money as well, and only 50/50 in the office

We are government funded so not threatened with redundancy AT THE MOMENT (touch wood), but I really do feel for the people that are out of work at the moment and cant find anything above NMW.

You take on mortgages etc that you can afford comfortably at the time, and if you are in a well paid job then made redundant, it can be very hard to find that level of pay again

guys; i would hate to lose my job, but for those who are saying they want to move abroad etc, its not that easy.

2 people i know who moved to NZ earlier in the year have had to move back because of no work - NZ's policy was New Zealand jobs for New Zealand people.

the grass is not always greener on the other side

its different but as long as you have some ŁŁŁ to enjoy it its a different world, it woudl be easy to go over stay a while then think sod this and come back but you would regret it
i know a few people who went and came back then realised it was a big mistake and went back again or are planning to

its not hard to get into oz if you know someone there, i know a few peeps who can sort it worry less about other people, you only live once and they can visit for under 500

well i'm glad i bailed out to oz, the company i worked for in the uk is on the ropes at the moment, i can't see it closeing but it's not good. work wise over here it's not to bad we had a slack time where i work and got rid of 15 blokes mostly dead wood. it has picked up now so all's good and with the aussie dolla good in america it makes things good for us as i work for a conversion company on yankie motors and we are getting a steady flow through now so alls good. i feal for you lads with work at the moment and hope it picks up for you.

it amazes me how poeple are saying tht the reccesion is over and houses will be going back up at a rate of 4 million percent a month cause everything is rosie. When the reality is everyone you speak to is having hours cut or worse with redundancys and companys closing. Somethings not adding up to me?
