Someone's buying canned food with no labels on them out the bargain bin at Lidls.
"What's in the lucky dip for dinner tonight love?"
"Boiled chicken in gravy with tinned mandarin and an unidentified meat soup."

Saving for a rainy day doesnt work if you cant access it tho? I can understand overpaying but If the economic situation rewarded it Id split it half and half. I'd always still want some cash I could get to quickly if I had to!

the biggest thing i can suggest, rather than having savings is to get any debt paid off, using hsbc headline rates.....
standard savings accoung: 0.75%
standard Loan account: 8.79%
standard credit card: 16.9%
as you can see - to have more money long term - get shot of the debt as savings wont earn you anywhere as much interest as you lose on the same amount of debt.

Can i ask the people with savings what they intend on doing with it? i can understand having say a grand in the bank sitting for when the boiler goes or fence blows down ect ect but unless your saving for something in particular say a house deposit or wedding what's the point?
Genuinely interested in the mindset of people opposite to me
I work with a young ladd who's always saving must have over 5k and he's 21 at home with parents i would have spunked it on partying or car mods at that age and did! - the ladds got a mint FRS too very shrewd with his cash. Wish i was more like that to be honest

You going to have a big fat employee's pension for when your older???
If not then you need to consider saving. your kids 21?? so you must be about 40 ish. What you going to do when your one of the 40% who get made redundant in your 50s and not find a new job??? societys getting more agiest, the state pensions getting less and the retirement age and cost of living is going up. Your a fool if you make none of your own provisions.

Someone suggested taking a pack lunch to work each day which is a great idea considering I eat out everyday BUT a boots meal deal costs me £3.50 a day, and Greggs even cheaper, so what pack lunch can I make that would be cheaper? Would love some ideas please.
Goin to cut down on going out at the weekends with mates as this equates to about £100 a night on the piss, such a waste really.
The problem I have is when I like something, I just buy it instead of thinking, do I really need that. So hopefully change this attitude.
Company pension etc for when I retire but doesn't mean I shouldn't save a little for unforeseeable issues. The boiler breaking is a good one! I'd have to pay it out of my months wages which would no doubt leave me a little short.
Keep them coming guys

Depends what you want for lunch and if you have any cooking facilities at work i.e. microwave, £3.50 a day isn't too bad i guess. But go into Asda or the like and see if you can get a whole weeks lunch for £17.50, it's EASILY do able, and you'll eat healthier aswell, i like going to those places you mentioned but it becomes a habit and you end up eating sh1te everday like sauceage rolls/pies/chips etc. I generally just get a multipack of drinks from asda, some brown bread because it lasts longer, sandwich filler spead or tuna etc and maybe fruit or some other snack aswell, your maybe not saving loads but it's something to think about.
Savings wise, i can see some folks point about having "pointless" savings just incase, I like to have a few pounds spare for unforseen circumstances, DIY/home improvements and the like, there's nothing worse than having say a washing machine break and your skint and have to wait to buy a new one, things like that annoy me. Also, if you decide you want a new car or tv and think "oh i need to save up", but you've already got £500 in the bank, you won't take nearly as long to get the rest, anyway thats my 2 pence worth.

Ha, been there a few times for food shopping, but i won't make a habit of it! The mrs usually insists on buy THE most expensive cleaning products in the shop which doesn't help, it has to be the brand name, doesn't matter if it's twice the price, suppose she's gotta have some fun eh.

If you have pop to drink, keep the next 5/6 500ml bottles then refill them at home from 2l bottles that you can pick up at £1 a bottle.
£3.50 a day just for lunch from home made ingredients means you can eat like a king!!!

You can do home made subways for like 1/3rd the cost too!!

Cheers guys, it's good to see others suggestions
Warren - try making me a chicken tikka sandwich, brown bread, lettuce and cumcumber for less than 2.30 which I pay in a shop. Not sure it can be done to be honest.
Can I buy chicken tikka sandwich filler? Then cut up some chicken to add to it please
?
