std oil pumps are fine, zetecs have good oil pressure, unlike CVH's!

hi mate silvertop oil pumps are prone to the cast internals of the pump failing due to harmonic distortion at 7500rpm and not the bhp figure . the failing of the oil pump is a major issue and will ruin your engine (just look at luca thread as it fooked his 2000 mile engine up) . there are 3 options mate
1 dont rev the engine over 7200 rpm and make sure you use a new genuine ford pump
2 take the standard pump , strip the internals out and get them machined out of forged material ( and sell them as theres nothing on the market at the minute and make yourself a few bob)
3 scrap the standard pump and fit a full dry sump system

the black top engine is a different story as you can buy billet oil gears for the standard pump which takes all the worry away , anyone interested in them contact austenw on here as he had them custom machined for his engine , and no they dont fit the standard silvertop pump before you ask.

they would cost no more than Ł100 in my opinion to get machined and would solve a massive problem with these pumps , so its worth the trouble if you know what i mean

hope this helps

cheers paul

I have been asking CFM of usa for a long time for the black top uprated billet gears but he said that they are getting a hard time getting them from there supplier also i contacted puma speed uk and the same problem ,it is a fact that all zetecs that rev more than 7200 rpm tend to break the oil pump gears so dont take any risks as it will ruin your engine , so i decided to go for a dry sump system

they only rev to 6750rpm standard rite??
so will 7000rpm be a safe limit?
a turbo'd engine will make most of it's power mid range then drop off so is there any point raising the rev limiter??

u can shoot me down now if ya want.

lmao!

7000rpm should be fine but you never know , ive ran mine now for 2years when the engine was 300bhp , then uprated to 500bhp+ with the same pump and reved to 7500 rpm on the dyno with no probs but i aint taking any risks so iam going for a full dry sump system

i think some people are getting mixed up the blacktop. cfm do the gears for the blacktop but not the silvertop.

and a blacktop will rev to 7200 all day and not smash the pump as thats what the rev limit is on a st170 and its the same pump.

my own engine has been hitting the limiter for the last 4.5k with no probs .

Take the one you have apart and inspect it. If it's ok, then use this over a new one.

Rick.
