Default Windows 7 Rocks

Just installed it on the wife's, which I may add was running Vista(shitster).

What a massive improvment, It has transformed the machine. I am still running XP on my work machine, but if all the software I run will run on windows 7, I think I may upgrade. Thumbs up Microsoft well fucking done.

johnny, if it wont run....

XP MODE...

it's a purpose designed XP VM that apps will run in-context on., think of it like VMWare Workstation in Affinity mode.

agreed tho, windows 7 is like vista... but it works...

Did not know that mate, I use loads of odd EMC software and shit so that will be very helpfull, just finding time to upgrade it will be tricky. My work machine is a laptop which I use almost 24/7, fuck it my try and blag a new latop and try and run them togther.

Take two latops to site may be a little bit of a cunt Doh

Yeh, its not bad at all.

Had to use XP mode as our VPN security doesnt let W7 O/S;s through at present..

But other than that, not bad

few improvements over vista, if you have "ok" spec computer there isnt a great difference from vista tbh a little bit quicker nothing really noticable. On the lowest spec pc in the house, p5k, q6600 clocked to 3ghz. 4g ram, 4870 you can just about tell the difference.

Its more of a vista "slim" than a upgrade. As in the ps3 slim is to the normal ps3.

Agreed 7 is alot better, but vista isn't bad if you have the hardware to run it. My pc runs it fine as its a high spec one. It only runs bad when its installed on shitty laptops from places like pc world that only have it so they can use it for marketing...
People are quick to jump on the 'vista is shit' bandwagon, but most of these people have only ever used vista on low end pcs/don't have a fucking clue...

downloaded the RC some time ago- was running it for a while in dual boot but i just didn't need XP anymore and i find windows 7 so much quicker to use and respond when using applications.
I've bought a proper version on pre-order to save some dosh, just gotta whack my new hard drive in and i'll be a happy bunny
I agree for once microsoft have done something right- first time i've bought a microsoft product in years!

Win7 is what Vista 'should' have been. Got to say it's a lovely OS though. I've been playing with it through out development and as such MS gave me a free (Signature) copy.
Am still usin' Xp pro at the min though (BIG BIG changes to proper PC in progress )

The fact that lots of companies were considering the upgrade ahead of the release says a lot as the vast majority steered well clear of Vista.

I have to say that I've seen a big speed increase in web browsing since upgrading my laptop from Vista and I'm using firefox not IE. It's about time they sorted it out.

When it says you need 16G of availiable HD space, Is this in addition to the amount vista takes up on my laptop? (I have fook all free memory)

Personally have not had one problem with vista in 2 years.

it's a purpose designed XP VM
If you meant this Dojj, think of it as a PC within a PC, but the 2nd one is all software, like a spectrum emulator.

VM = Virtual Machine btw

DOJJ.

VM = Virtual Machine.

Basically means you can run a computer from within your computer as such.

So you open the program and within the window it basically looks like your pc would when it turns on but within a window and on a different OS if you want.

My Group(work) have not touched vista, but windows 7 has to be in a major site before christmas and I can see why. It just works, all the bits of vista, but just does it so fast with added extra's.

Dont you think everyone is finding it faster only because its a nice fresh install though?

Its like any operating system when its just been installed. Seems amazingly fast because you got so used to your clogged up old system.

polly, not necessarily mate no it does a lot of things "smarter" and definately has a faster UI. Ive been running W7 for a few months now and it does obviously get bogged down with stuff as youd expect but its definately better berforming that Vista

johnny, we're kinda the same mate, a thought of deploing vista on our desktop estate was just incomprehensible! but W7? Hell yeah we're gonna have to give that a proper look! the major reason for this IMHO is XP Mode.

I download the RC and installed it on the laptop, now for a 1.4 gig cpu and 512 ram it didn't run too bad. Mrs didn't like it so I used the Sony Factory Reset discs. The only problem I will have is there are no drivers for visata, let alone 7 for my sound card. It only runs sound through media player and winamp, nothing through IE or Firefox (

Clearly something was fucked then. mine has a lower power processor, less ram, and dunno about gpu as you have not specified one, and mine is rather quick, even with a master HDD that is basically full...

dan, there WILL be drivers mate, they all use a universal architecture now! infact you dont actually install a driver for them, you install a CODEC!

slamz, you say that but have you compared the performance of the SAME pc to say, XP x64? or W7?

my pc wasn't "slow" on vista, it was just "significantly slowER" than XP x64. Windows 7 is significantly fastER than vista. not quite XP, but then it does have a shit load more going on with it!
