Hmm sounds like something has snagged the belt i'd of thought? even a fairly tight tensioner would prolly whine or make noise before it snapped the belt i'd of said?

just ask jb what can go wrong when you have belt problems, his one simply stripped a few teeth of but ended up needing a bit of a rebuild
you may get away with a few bent valves, just mke sure they've not smashed the guides or the tops of the pistons
good luck for tomorrow

When my timing belt went it was because the timing belt tensioner stud came lose out the head, just enough to let the belt become slack.
It bent all 16 valve marked all the pocket pistons and had to replace some of the guides.
So please make sure you lock tight the f*ck out of the tensioner stud going into the head, and use a new lock nut on the tensioner.
I've marked my stud with a horizontal line on the end of the stud so i can see if it ever starts to move again.
Good luck with yours
