Default Help with ST170 fuel rail

hi chaps, I'm currently in the process of building up my inlet manifold with TB's. Im using a ST170 fuel rail and injectors, how ever the fuel rail is a bit confusing .

It has what appears to look like a normal zetec FPR in the middle of the rail with a vac take off, then on the end where you would expect the FPR to go it has a black box with 3 wires and very small nipple .

Now is this black box some sort of fuel pressure sensor and electronic regulator?

Think i'm going to remove the black box and tap a thread in its place then fit a barbed fitting and have a remote mounted FPR.

Any idea's?

cheers

Bri.

Simple just get a fuel rail from a blacktop mondeo and fit that in place of the st170 rail.

It will bolt to the manifold in the same way and gine you a conventional fuel rail which i suspect is what your after

The ST170's run a returnless fuel system, there is a small black box that plugs in near the fuel pump on a standard car that regulates the fuel pump voltage giving it an increase or reduction in voltage depending on what pressure is detected in the rail.

As has been said - for your requirements, just bin it off and put a standard returning fuel rail on.

Cheers i though that would be the case. Was just keen to know what it was all about, Will, do you think there are any advantages to the ST170 system out of curiosity?

The ST170 fuel system is pretty good for a standard car, increasing the rail pressure as the requirements go up means the fuel pump only does the work when it needs to theoretically extending its lifespan. Also, by not circulation fuel round to the rail and then back to the tank, you're reducing friction and in turn, heat. That will keep the fuel cooler and in turn help power.

However, the gains against the complications of trying to run it as a retrofitted conversion... Personally, i wouldn't!
