Default Oyster card advice and help pls

Hey guys, as per my other post about me heading off to London, How does this oyster card thing work and is it worth it ?

I get the general idea of it, sort of pre pay card for travel, but what sort of amount of cash should i put on it for one day for me and the missus, i want to cram a lot in by the way.

For an adult it is £5.80 for a day travelcard that means you can travel on the buses and the tube for as long as you like all day. Note that this is off-peak hours though and is only valid from 9.30am onwards. Travelling before 9.30am you pay a peak rate of about £8-9. Newsagents usually know their stuff mate so you can ask them too.

what do you want to do and when are you going?

get a travelcard for the weekend if you want to just stay there for a day

the oyster card will cost you £3 for starters and then you will have to decide how to put money on it

you can put a bit of money onto it that will be used each and every time you mke a journey upto the cut off point, after which everythign is free

or you can put a time limit on it, either a one day travel card for the whole of the london area or a week's bus pass for a certain amount of zones etc

so it all depends on when and where, just don't buy tickets per journey as this will cost you SHIT loads of money

Everytime I go to London for a week (i.e. work sending me out for training), I always get the 1 week pass - this will cover Zone 1 and Zone 2 which is good enogh for me. Costs me £25 and you can use it as many as you like including bus! So works out cheap...

Where are you going to be staying, and what/where will you be visiting? I think the one day travelcard will be your best option. £5.80 travel as much as you like all day (after 9.30am or £8.60 I think if you need to travel before 9.30am).
