HDD space/size question...
So this new PC... Supposed to have a 40gb HDD...
So howcome if you go to properties for C Drive it says total size 33.8gb? Thats not the "space left" size, thats the total size according to the PC...
The other PC should have had 10gb but reckoned it only had a total size of 9.1gb - I can live with a lost 0.9gb but missing 6.2gb??? Whats that all about???

PassionFord Post Whore!!
its a dell
there will be a hidden partition with your backup files on it probably a ghost image file
when you put your backup cd in it copies a images file from one partition to the other

Andy - not old, new infact - and yes I know it is not a lot of HDD comparred to todays standards, but for what we need it for, it's not worth paying the extra for it, when it's cheaper to upgrade it later for less money...
Craig - yeah, it's a Dell... So is that what it is? a ghosted backup?

Sounds about right.
As said some will be taken up by your XP backup. But also, 1 gigabtye is 1024 megabtyes. 1 megabyte is 1024 bytes. Those figures are by hard drives manufacturers. Microsoft though see it as 1000. You are 'losing' 24 bytes in a megabyte and 24 megabytes in a gigabyte. Add them up and it's not far off your figures.
Don't worry, you've not been conned. It's just Microsoft being w*nkers.
