Default Escort GTi, buying advice?

Hey folks, considering an Escort GTi in Part Ex for my Focus,
anything in particular I should ask about or look for?

Going from a Focus to an Escort? Is that a wise move? No offence to the Escort, but the Focus is a much better all round car. The GTi's not exactly sporty, despite the name!

I'm pretty sure there is only one engine and one power level you can choose from, which is 1.8 zetec with 115ps.

rusty arches
rusty sills (peel back the rubber seal)
chasis rails
idleing probs
"crap" performance mods (ie fas road cams on a standard engine= loss in power things like that)
miss fire/rough power delivery (can also cause the dodgy idle)

as to engines:

1.4=75
1.6=90
1.8=115

(then there were the 1.8 varients which ccame in 105 and 130 specs but these wernt in the gti's)

Ditto rear arches and idling, mine had both those issues during the time i owned it.

Good cars but not very quick.
