Minirotty is the man to answer this question!
The exhaust is a good start. Most will have an aftermarket system by now, but ditching the air pulse system off the manifold is supposed to make a good improvement. The manifold will need rewelding and smoothing where it's been removed, but it's meant to be worthwhile.
People also say that porting and polishing the throttle housing helps a bit. Fit a panel filter and a chip and you should be going along quite nicely then.
After that, I reckon headwork and a cam change, but that's obviously a good bit more expensive.
I'm fairly new to them, so I'm sure someone may have other ideas, but it's a few basics to be going on with

a 2.3 galaxy bottom end is an option and is meant to make a big difference on the road due to the extra torque, and ive heard ditching the egrc system makes quite a big difference to about 5bhp!?
which isnt bad for free haha

I bought EGR blanking plugs and washers for a Mondeo from Ford, used them on my XR2i when I took the EGR system off.
..I have no idea if they will fit on an RS2000, were only Ł5/6 from Ford.

Ah ok, never knew that. I've heard people refer to the EGR System on Zetecs as 'pulse air' so assumed it was the samething.
Pounds per HP is very rubbish on the RS2000.
Best bet is a chip , full exhaust system including decat.Keep the airbox and pop a good panel filter in.Some respond well to that others dont. A few years back I had 175hp on the rollers with basicly the above with a larger tb.
The amount of work and cost to get near 200hp is stupid these days.
yeah you could pop some cams in but your only gain from ramping it around on a track as all the torque will be up top.. Have fun with it nice reliable car but dont expect too much from them.

For the 1 hp if that increase prob isnt worth the hassle IMO..
As the ports in the engine exhaust side will be smaller once you open the manifold up lol.
Hence why they welded inside the ports.

n/a power increases will always cost more then turbo'd ones, sure an 800bhp turbo'd engine is not going to be cheap, but then again an 800bhp n/a engine would cost a lot more, F1 engines cost how much?
