Default CVH Front Crank Oil Seal Fitting Help Needed Please

Evening all.
I need to change this on my Mk4 XR3i but don't want to spend £200 plus getting Fords to do it! I have done one before but it leaked soon afterwards.
Does anyone have any hints or tips on how to fit one without the spring coming off.
What distance piece can be used to get it into position?
Thanks guys.

Always fitted them by hand. Smear a bit of grease around the outer lip and it should go in no issues

Buy the best quality seal you can, they are a bit fiddly to fit but not impossible.

I thought so when i did mine, it seemed much better made and firmer, which held the spring in place.

Others may have different ideas though?

When haz87 says smear outer lip in grease I assume he means the outside edge of the seal that fits against the oil pump and not the central hole that grips the crank?

Evening all.
Has anyone else got any advice on fitting CVH front crank oil seal?
Do i put grease on outside edge of seal & inside edge that touches crank?
What have people used as a distance piece to push it into place?
Thanks
