Default Locking hard-drives.....

Our PC has 2 hard drives. The main one obviously, but there is also a second 500gb drive, that is split into 2 sections (D: and L. It is used just for data storage.

We have 2 user accounts, ours is the main one, but also Rosie has one of her own.

I don't want her to be able to access the D: and L:, is there any way this can be done? I can't see any way of doing it?

I think you could probably do this via user account settings on Vista.

Right click the Hard Drive, go to properties, Click on the security tab... I presume you'll be as adminstrator, ensure Rosie has a different type of account to yours and edit the permissions for that user group.

I'm not sure entirely it will be what you need, but it's all I could find quickly. Worth a shot eh!

There are lots of applications to do it ultimately though.

PGP or Steganos safe can encrypt a hard disk or just odd folders so that it will pop with with a password prompt when clicked, if you can get hold of them but a freeware program will probably do your needs. I've used both, PGP makes the disk disappear from my computer almost until you mount it with the password and safe locks all the files in its safe. They also have other tools like filed shredders too.

Have a search on http://download.cnet.com/windows/ and see if there are any good hard disk/folder encryption free programs about or trials.
