Default RS turbo water pump Q.

Morning All
What the common sign of the water pump packing up?
Last night it overheated twice once on the way to a mate house, was all fine till I got to his street, in the time it took me to drive up and turn round and park, the temp shot right and pissed all the water out the header tank and the same on the way home, as soon as i got on to my street, it super heated in a few mins.
I'v also had a knocking ratterly coming the timing ended for the last week, I was told by a mate who is a proper grease monkey and knows his ford said it would be he cam belt tenchener as the non ford ones were know for the bearing to go on the inside.
Now I'm thinking its the water pump, but I want to know a lil more before I start going and buying and changing parts.
So all info would be helpful.
Cheers Dave

Ta Kosman! Just wanted a bit of reassurance.
Thinking I'm going to start tomorrow on changing everything.

Hadn't even thought of that! I'll get one of them too. It wasn't that hot last night and I been driving nicely down to my mates.
