Nova SR in standard trim will barely pull the skin from a rice pudding. However they are easily tweekable and a Nova runnning the 2.0 XE powerplant is a very very capable little car. Suspension is a bit pants though but that's nothing time and money can't sort out.

Your average chav Nova is a cack piece of automotive excrement. A well tweeked one built by an entusiast should have your respect

There was a really nice dark green one on the scene a few years ago running a 2.0 turbo motor. Owned by a guy called John Shields I think. Sweet little Nova that one

Rapid Nova's everywhere.......especially in Scotland!

Read this thread on the MLR (EVO's forum).........
worth reading all three pages

http://www.lancerregister.com/showth...highlight=nova

On page TWO:
i had an interesting drive home from crail with 3 novas a while back.
was heading home at the end of the day and was in a hurry to get home so was overtaking quite a bit. up ahead i could see three novas also doing quite a bit of overtaking.
came up to the three novas, one white the others red and blue, that were tearing round crail like they owned the place and whos max-drivers were using radios and thought i'd show em what a real can do...........took the rearguard one and pulled away from him - or at least i thought - he started to real me in and was right behind me staying in my tracks even when overtaking! Eventually took the lead car at the st.michaels, kept ahead and made some disatnce until the dualar & bridge when all three just shot past as if i wasnt there.was fun, real challenging, white knuckle at times and was certainly the most i'ver ever pushed my car (left my m8s in their p1, wrx, ctr and prelude far behind) they certainly earned my respect

The black one is a calibra turbo motor, with oversize pistons, hybrid turbo, legacy charge cooler (cant use an FMIC in a mid engined car!) and a progressive wizards of nos kit.
Power is around 250bhp + 100bhp of gas.
Thats just to get me up and running though, then i'll be pulling the engine out and swapping to some arrow rods and then upping it to about 280bhp off gas + 125bhp of gas (the reason for keeping the off gas power so low is the cooling plus the fact i dont want it to become laggy which it would if i went any bigger on the turbo)

The red one is a N/A calibra motor, 150bhp + 125bhp of gas
(13.3 second quarter mile @ 109.mph)

Nova's can be fun, handle like litle go carts and are pretty much open to any vauxhall engine to be dropped in, and relatively cheaply (obviously with a bit of work!)

Going back a few years i had a Nova SR and it went thru many different engine combinations and as chip-3door will know, they can certainly catch people unaware, and i think that was the best part of it all!

Mine went from a standard 1.3 to a 1.3 with worked head and on twin 40's which used to upset a few RS Turbo guys locally.
Then i moved on to a 1.8 which i later ran with nitrous until it died at a magazine feature back in 1996 so thats when i dropped in 2L 16V engine and still ran it with 50bhp of nitrous.

Must admit it was fun even though i kept twisting driveshafts and breaking CV joints.

When i eventually sold the car on after about 4 years of a very hard old life it was starting to show signs of pulling apart and even had a slight kink around the back of the sunroof!

Those where the days

Kelcos, sounds like a lot of fun, and yeah you are right, its the surprising people that is the best bit.

I totally wiped the floor with a UK spec imprezza turbo a couple of months ago on a private dual carraiageway near me, and the guy just looked completely confused.

My SR running a 'sport' set up ran a 15.9 @ the pod last year with around 100 brake @ the wheels.

I hoping for more with my new totally gutted Sport. BTW they apparently made 417 road cars which makes them rare as you know what!

Ive two of the fookers as well!

its pretty much the same bore and stroke aswell so they rev forever, way off past the end off the rev counter

all in all in total i was led to believe that there was only 502 sports ever made, and if you ever wanted to replace the cars graphics direct from irmscher you had to show your logbook to prove you owned one!

from factory they came with both the 32/34 dmtl weber carb and a set a weber twin 40 dcoe's and it was up to the local dealer how they sold them.

i was lucky enough to get hold of the sport interior and genuine carbs with airbox etc for mine back in its time.

Like the Mk II escorts on carbs the sound is awsome. Toying with putting a blower on through the carbs at the mo. Probably only a whistle i.e. a T2 as I have one lying around. Aim would be 150 brake out of a 1298cc

Who cares?
Vac advance is only any good for part throttle economy anyway, its irrelevant from a performance point of view.

Im from near bridgwater mate, but me and Gareth go back years from helping each other when we both used to organise a lot of illegal cruises (gareth still does but i got too much hassle off the old bill)

Seems to be quite a few PF folks in the southwest, be good to all get together over xmas at weston or somewhere for a pint or something, but sadly my cossie is stuck in oxfordshire till i can get a set of number plates on the damn thing, so id be in my volvo estate, lol

Bridgwater seems to be the spiritual home of old fast fords, there are bloody hundreds of them going about.

Not much use for me, other than old (rwd) escorts and cossies i pretty much cant stand any fords, lol
(probably not the best site to be saying that if im trying to make friends here? lol)

That was the guy from Courtnay Sport , think it was the first Turbo`d Nova built , full leather , 16" speedline allessios .

Tim Harvey took it round the Millbrook Bowl and got over 150MPH out of it WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY back at the start of the 1990`s .

Difference between the GTE/GSI is purely cosmetic .

New trim and dash
Different front bumper , grille , headlights , indicators , rear bumper is different and so too is the top spoiler

I had a Silk Violet GSI when I first passed my test and I fookin loved it
